So, I've got the chip wired up... but of course I have to select a device and this chip isn't in the list. I knew this ahead of time, but was hoping to get it to work anyway. Since you also have the 4x, do you happen to know of any way to for a read of the chip to at least see if I'm connected correctly?
None of those are in my list... I know I can manually add chips to this list, but I think I'd need extra info to make it work correctly. If you have those in your list are you able to send the line of text for them so I can add them? I've tried some reads with ones that are "close" to your numbers, but so far all I'm getting is "0" at all data points.
Just to toss a wrench into all this... when I had the laptop apart I did run accross this chip: EON F80-75HCP From what I've read this is also a 1mb chip... so, could this really be the bios??? This chip was on the opposite side of the PCB from the battery and a good 2 inches further away.
not that I saw, but I put the laptop back together when the G966 was viewable from an access port. I'll have to rip the laptop apart again to look for more chips. Also, all zeros with the other suggested chips when I tried to read data. It could be a problem with my wire rig too, but without higher magnification I can't see for sure.... it appears I have no crosses or extra solder.
are you saying the "ENE" chip is the BIOS?? edit, oh wait... I see the "MX" chip... is that the one you're talking about?
I would not approach this with the assumption the the chip is near the battery. In the utube video above the tech is able to power on the board outside the case. If you are going to go through the work of disassembling again leave it out until you know you have fixed the problem. You can do it!
So how sure are you it's the MX chip since it's on the other side from the battery? I ask because it's going to take a good hour for me to clean up from my soldering and rip the laptop apart again just to gain access to that chip. I truely am greatful for all your help on this, I'm just not looking forward to taking the laptop apart again, lol. hmm... I guess I should make sure my programmer can deal with this new chip... what's the chip number again, I'm starting to get lost with all the posts, lol.
I might be able to setup a way to test outside the case, but I'm unsure how the board would respond to just a powersupply and monitor attached. Since the board is already perfectly quiet my only hope is that it would beep, lol
OK, so the consensus is that MX25L8005 is the chip then... I'll start to open the beast up again then.
to save some time I'm going to move forward with soldering my wires to it while I await confirmation. You guys have been awesome so far, thank you!!
Here is the bio chip from Latin McG's schematic link. The number is barely visible under the chip. View attachment 13140
Unless someone else can read it I can't make out that number and I've tried a few times. I've tried reading this EON F80-75HCP chip using the EN25F80 and all I get now is "FF" in all data fields.
OK, so is the BIOS the 8pin EON chip or the 80+ pin ENE chip... sorry, but I assume it's the 8pin EON F80-75HCP...yes?
