    Hi,

I am sitting in a situation where the bios was updated using the HP Management Tools that come installed with the laptop. Hardware is HP Probook 4520s. It was listed as a critical update, it was downloaded and installed. Upon reboot, I saw the installation taking place and update was taking place. When I came back from getting a cup of coffee, the screen was blank, with a blinking power button.
No matter what I tried it wouldnt boot up.
I have found a couple of ways to try get this sorted out by following procedures on this site. One in particular was to download the update package from HP site, rename two files .sig and .bin and put them on a FAT flash drive in the following location : HEWLETT-PACKARD\BIOS\CURRENT , then holod win and b in while powering on or all the arrow buttons and power on. But this failed to work, I even went as far as renamiong the directories I created using lower case etc etc, but still no joy.

Has anyone managed to actually get this right and working, I have been working on this all day now and its driving me around the bend!!

    PLEASE HELP !

    Thanks

    Hi Kizwan,

Yes this is the one in particular I tried numerous times, but when I hold win and b in and power the machine on, it starts to read the usb stick and then switches off again after about 10 seconds, and back to the blinking power switch :(

If I managed to get a usb floppy drive, isnt the max size of a floppy 1.44MB? My .bin file is 2.5MB ...

ahh it is a big one i see. (the floppy usb is for the HP laptop)
    Recovery filenames are:
    P8P67R31.ROM

llikely usb2gb should work .. its EFI bios

3.10.3 ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 utility
The ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 utility is an auto recovery tool that allows you to restore the BIOS file when it fails or gets corrupted during the updating process. You can restore a corrupted BIOS file using the motherboard support DVD or a USB flash drive that contains the BIOS file.
The BIOS file in the motherboard support DVD may be older than the BIOS file published on the ASUS official website. If you want to use the newer BIOS file, download the file at support.asus.com and save it to a USB flash drive.
    Recovering the BIOS
    To recover the BIOS:
    1. Turn on the system.
    2. Insert the motherboard support DVD to the optical drive, or the USB flash drive containing the BIOS file to the USB port.
    3. The utility automatically checks the devices for the BIOS file. When found, the utility reads the BIOS file and enters ASUS EZ Flash 2 utility automatically.
    4. The system requires you to enter BIOS Setup to recover BIOS setting. To ensure system compatibility and stability, we recommend that you press <F5> to load default BIOS values.

next time use dos usb with
    BUPDATER 1.22
    DOS Based Bios update tool

Please follow the directions below to create a diagnostic diskette. (crisis recovery diskette)
Prepare a bootable diskette in advance. Then extract Aspire 1300 zip file to the bootable diskette. When the
pop-out message asks you if you like to replace file: command.com with comand.com, please click "No". Next,
the pop-out message will ask you if you like to replace file: config.sys with config.sys, click "Yes". Then the
pop-out window will display the last message asking you if you like to replace file: AUTOEXEC.BAT with the
file AUTOEXEC.BAT. Please click "Yes". After you create the diagnostic diskette, you can boot the system
    from the bootable diskette.

    Lenovo S10-2 BIOS Recovery

Hi guys, I have a rather large problem :/

I own a Lenovo S10-2 Netbook which is out of warranty and does not boot up or anything. I have tried to follow this guide: forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-S-series-Netbooks /HOWTO-BIOS-recovery-on-S10-2/td-p/176976

But I cannot get the usb to be read. This all happened when I tried to reset the BIOS password - since I forgot it - by killing the CMOS (stupid I know ><) and now my netbook is all buggery. It won't start up and has the leds flashing though.

    It uses the Insyde Bios.
