    AMI Aptio bios recovery procedure.

What i find out is that you need use key combination tu enter receovery mode. ctrl+ins , FN + B while in off state.

But manufacturers change the rom file name so you dont know how to name your bios for recovery.

Ok so here is the thing for AMI Aptio bios (who wants to test it please post a reply if its working).

    Edit bios file with HEX editor and search (hexadecimal) this string 41 00 67 00 65 00 73 00 61

Right under the AGESA dump there is name of the file for recovery in my case Asus K53U - K43BY.bin or Toshiba C660 - PWWBEU.rom

    Format stick to FAT32

Pictures attached please make it sticky

If someone can make this more understandable rewrite.

All four .BIN are BIOS file. I don't know which one is for your notebook. Does the first four digits means something to you? For example, part of model no.? Did you try put the BIOS file in USB thumbdrive (formatted with FAT) like this (case sensitive):-
    HEWLETT-PACKARD\BIOS\Current\0166C.BIN
    HEWLETT-PACKARD\BIOS\Current\0184D.BIN
    HEWLETT-PACKARD\BIOS\Current\0338A.BIN
    HEWLETT-PACKARD\BIOS\Current\01666.BIN

You did press Win + B keys during powering the notebook, right?

    I don't really understand this:-
Is this means, first need to initiate BIOS recovery & then forced BIOS recovery by pressing all 4 arrow keys & press the power button??

    oh man!

    I think I bricked my HP DV9730nr!!!

Was doing BIOS mod/update, then the dreaded Nvidia chip event happened, screen went blank, then the laptop shut down!
I re-flowed the chip, but of course now when I try to boot, black screen, caps lock led flashing.

I tried the recovery methods posted at the beginning of this thread. No good.
Am trying the above, but my BIOS from HP does not have the efibios.sig, Rom.bin, Rom.sig, ver.sig or ver.txt files inside it?

    The BIOS revision is sp48024

To make matters worse...I think I must have damaged the power ribbon cable. When I insert the battery, the laptop powers up, and will not power down. Also, with the battery out, but AC adapter in, will not power up, some led's flash like they're polling, but no power up. As soon as I pop the battery in....it powers up.

Any and all suggestions or help will be most appreciated.

    Thanks!
    John

I update my Asus X73SJ bios from v202 to v203. Now laptop is dead (no image, no fan spining, just few leds on). I went to service, they desoldered my bios and write with external device but no success. Now, when i plug my ac, laptop start automatically (no power button pressed). I try different recovery methods but still dont work:
just dvd spins few time, no light on usb drive.
Does anyone knows what method to try to ressurect laptop? key combination and file
    Thanks

As far I know, ASUS supplies the driver disc with bios recovery embedded in it. Insert the dvd, start the lappy, wait for a while.... :)

If your notebook still using the pre-loaded Windows, from power OFF state, try pressed & hold Ctrl+Home keys while turning on the notebook. Wait for 2-3 minutes.
