    Hello

The bad news is that I don't have an USB floppy drive and the CD-ROM is borken; it's OK if I use USB FLASH DRIVE (256 Mb Fat16 formated)? Which file should I put on it (I downloaded Crisis Recovery Disk from link you provided)? I try to use Fn+B key according to the instructions you gave me and the FLASH DRIVE LED is blinking for 4-5 sec. and then goes OFF (and stays OFF no matter how long the laptop is AC powered....I left the AC power plug-in for 15-20 min. but notthing happened)...is it necessary to rename the BIOS.WPH?

I wait for your reply; thk for your time and pacience...

    Hi all.

Well, I done goofed up a bios flash last night. I modded the last bios for my GA-965P-S3, replacing the JMB363 OROM with the one from the previous BIOS (to fix it hanging on detecting devices when my Pioneer IDE DVDRW was attached). After a successful flash in QFlash, I rebooted and just before it posted I thought 'oh I didn't take out the usb stick". So I pulled that out before the system has fully posted (still nothing on screen). The board powered off straight away. It may have came back on, or maybe I just powered it back up (hazy memory) but in any case I'm stuck with no video output, no usb, no floppy access, no beeps, no mobo.

I tried Nijel's shorting trick on the first page as my BIOS is the same chip but it hasn't worked. Ctrl+home has no effect as even the PS/2 keyboard doesn't initialise on boot.

    Is this totally dead?

    hello everybody

here is my case --- sorry for my English, I'm french and I make efforts so you can understand me well ^^

I have an Asus X93SM (equal to K93SM), Mobo: Compal PBL80 LA-7441P (there's also 3 others daughter mobos for SATA ODD, USB 2;0 and Touchpad), here is a picture:
    View attachment 17368

It has an AMI APTIO BIOS.

It wont' boot at all, it seems dead, but:

When I power up it, with battery and adaptor I have
    - FAN spins
    - LED: HDD + power + battery (in chargé or charging)
    - HDD spins up
but a black screen: no display.

It's happened after I want to changer boot order to set to USB key first.

    What I'm tried:
    - full disassembly
    - electrical reset (full discharge)
    - clear CMOS (CMOS battery removing)

    With Andy's Tool PhoenixTools I see the ecovery file was: K93SM.bin. With HxD Editor, I also see numerous reference to: K93SM.bin in the BIOS files from Asus: K93SM.204 or K93SM.205;
so, it seems to be confirmed that the recovery BIOS file was K93SM.bin?
So, I tried to recover the BIOS by USB key.
I created a 2 GB USB key formatted in FAT (FAT16), copied the BIOS file in it and renamed it: K93SM.bin.
After that, I plugged the USB key on the laptop, in the USB pport USB 2.0, just near the power cord.
Then, I pressed CTRL + HOME keys and poiwered up the laptop, keeping keys press.
The USB lighted up and blinked several times but nothing happened even if I wait 15 or 20 minutes.

Cause the the USB key's LED blinked when I powered up the PC with CTRL + HOME keys pressed, I thought the PC was not totally dead: am I right?

So, I'll appreciate any help to revive this laptop.

    Thank you.

i did a K53 laptop with a purchased SPI USB programmer.. i made backup.bin then checked bios download from asus with hexeditor and matched beginning and end to the backup.bin
merged then saved as fix.bin and flashed that to the chip.. it works

reason why i used spi and gave up on recovery software... i didnt see a single success of usb bios recovery in 2 hrs searching. but i did find successful spi posts.

    I don't understand very well
    how? can you explain?

you did a SPI USB programmer? or you did a backup.bin with a SPI USB programmer you've bought?

sorry if my questions seem stupid ...

    thanks!

    Wincris.exe says:

Warning! There are no removable devices in the system.Plug in the device and try again.

I have already put the usb stick in the pc. I have to format it in specific format? o_O

It would be better to do it on an XP machine. But if you have no other choice try running wincris in compatibility mode (XP SP3).

Obviously, you just have to right click the .exe file go to compatibility and check the "run this program in compatibility mode for:". Windows 7 is suppossed to suggest XP SP3 by default.
