Ok. I pass the 2 last days figuring how to fix my lenovo x201 tablet after broken my bios. I read many tutorial but it wasn't very easy to figure it out. So I took a tutorial I found on this forum and added precisions on how I finally succeed. I posted a .rar with the files I used and a .txt in the .rar containing the tutorial I updated.

    Good luck!

Here is a uploaded to BIOS Files I've used for HP Pavilion dv9720eg with Phoenix BIOS. The BIOS is Version F.2C!
In the *.rar File is also a *.txt File with the HowTo from eirearmenia!

I hope, it would be helpful for other Users with a bad BIOS Flash!

    Asus K73E

    Hello,
I updated the bios from 205 to 208 via EZ Flash on the notebook Asus K73E. After the update the notebook turned off und I'm not able to start it again. No LEDs are on, no fan noise, no cdrom.
I've tried to shorten the CMOS-clear beneath the memory modules - nothing :(

Any hints or thoughts on this specific model?

    thanks

Thanks for your reply. Did you unsolder the bios chip or is there a pin-interface to connect the programmer?

look for spi pinout and the programmer EN25T80 has the pin descriptions to put wires to it.

but ive heard that the restore dvd or resource dvd has a bios recovery file .. unplug hdd and leave dvd and follow the proper key to recover. (i got doubts about this)
also there is usualy a bios reset button close to battery .. small black button on underside of board.

i unsoldered by personal preference, but i read soldered on works with wires to programmer (on some boards it dont due to other components drawing current= desolder).. short wires no longer than 12 inches= 1 foot.

problem is access to it .. take board out.
make backup.bin of chip and post it.. then post link to original bios before crash. and new bios

to compare in hex editor and merge it then i post fixed.bin to flash

When updating BIOS, always use USB flash drive (FAT/FAT32); put the BIOS file in the USB flash drive. Updating BIOS from HDD is a big NO NO. Some people bricked their notebook because of this.

BIOS recovery on some Asus notebooks only possible with CD/DVD. Burn BIOS file with correct filename to CD/DVD-R(W) & power ON notebook while pressing CTRL+HOME keys. If your notebook doesn't turn ON at all, normal BIOS recovery will not be possible. SPI flash programmer will be needed if this is the case.

    Bump.

Obviously I've replaced the board now as it's been a few weeks, but I'd like to know if there's anything I can do to bring this one back to life.

It's a Rev 1. I had the F14 bios on it but the Xpress bios didn't do anything for me (I tried holding down the power button to try to trigger it).

I saw something about SPI programming when I was looking around for possible fixes, but I couldn't see any SPI header on the board. Otherwise I don't have a chip programmer or soldering iron to remove the existing bios so that's not an option.

I tried the pin-shorting but it did nothing. I'm wondering if it wasn't a bad bios flash, but my pulling out the usb stick during reboot that did it. I'd flashed a few modified bioses to it recently, all in Q-Flash and all without incident. It was strange how it powered off when I took out the stick.

When you mention a usb spi programmer, is it like this one on ebay? (item number 251158550672, I can't post links yet).

yeah or en25T80 but bulgaria is closer than hong kong

or u can try the LPT port with SPIPGM and the caps and resistors and one of the orange wires for power from a pc power supply .. read that link in last post well, at bottom but keep in mind his is MSI with non standard JTAG pinout. this is no isue with Test CLIP SOIC8 straight to chip..
SO8 test clip ebay item 170776817417 or soic8 clip in ebay, EEprom CLIP SOIC-8pin..
this is if no solder pen to do the deed.

lol look at ebay item 250464158353
looks like a spring loaded hot melt glue contraption.

look at some asus JTAG results for ideas too.

if i remember correctly the trick to do the short was on Bios M not Bios B away from the pin 1 row.. on pin 7 and 6 if im correct (2 middle and have the USB with the original bios that failed in it and possibly a copy named 965PS3.bin ). only while booting for like 5 seconds so it reads second chip.

    Hi All,
I need your help about my HP laptop dv6-7138us. After updated wrong BIOS, my laptop is dead, I followed some instructions on this thread to recover the BIOS but no luck. The caplock always blinking when startup, I download the BIOS sp57048.exe from HP & save the 0182D.bin file to a bootable pen drive (FAT) at \Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\current . I have tried to hold Win+B , Fn+B, 4 arrow keys & press power to start recover mode but there is no thing happen. Your advise would be appreciated, thanks

    Brilliant thanks LatinMcG!!! :yeahyeah:

Your solution save me, I could restore my BIOS now.

But it only works with the file name including 0 , the correct one is "0182D.bin" & "0182D.SIG", thanks again
