to those aware: how to recover in s/w damaged locked ME region of SPI flash rom (ami-aptio efi/insyde bios)? bios can boot but system is so slow that it takes minutes to reflash only bios region, ME is locked and slowing whole system down. Need to unlock to reflash full dump
its a laptop, thus looking for easy s/w solution for unlocking regions or full flash. either some key combination or bios hack /MEBx or else…
EFI / Insyde BIOS Finished Extracting Tiano module compression method used Recovery filenames are: UX32VD.bin UX32VD.213
Exactly it's a UEFI bios... But the procedure to lounh the recovery? I have a USB pen 512mb in FAT32... Thanks a lot.
Another unsuccessful BIOS flash, this one was my fault though... Hello All, First of all I would like to thank you all guys for maintaining such a wonderful Forum! There are hundreds of useful threads here and if there is something I can be sorry about it is that I did not manage to find solution for my problem. However, now when I am a proud member of the forum, if I may, I will do my best to try and help as well. I recently joined the unfortunate group of people who decided to flash their BIOSes (two days ago to be precised) and my laptop won't boot since. I am trying to find a solution for my situation but no success yet. Let me brief you in the most stupid experience ever: I have a Vaio VPCEA24FM, nice machine. I received a notification some time ago from the Sony support page that there are some updates available for this model, some drivers etc. including a new BIOS version which was supposed to provide better fan control. Oh, but does it really... I decided to take the opportunity and updated all the software, including the BIOS. The update was successful but since then the so called "improved fan control" caused me so many lost nerves... My laptop started maintaining high CPU temperatures (around 50C (120-130F) when idle compared to the 30C before) and thus the CPU fan started operating constantly at high RPM (not less than 3000 compared to the 1500 before that). I assume the so wonderful new BIOS provides higher voltage levels for some reason which is causing this temperature increase. Anyways, I lived with it for some time but these days I was off from work (unfortunately as it would appear :/) and decided I want my old BIOS back. Here began the hustle... If any of you guys have Sony laptop you probably already know that they DO NOT like giving their users much freedom over their own machines. By this I mean that you are barely able to change the date and time from the BIOS menu! Very few options available. Not to mention OC - not a chance! They do not keep official archive of old versions of anything, including BIOSes. They do not provide any advanced user's tools, nothing. So... I managed somehow to find what was the previous version of my BIOS, I even managed to find the .ROM file and then surprise - the file was 4MB while the newest version was only 2MB? I assumed I wont be able to use this ROM but having in mind all the hustle I went through finding it, I decided to try anyway. I started flashing using AFUWIN (please don't ask me why I used win interface flash utility ) but got error message that there is not enough space on the EEPROM for this ROM file. Not a big surprise. The most stupid part is yet to come, though. I managed to find one ROM file that was for a Vaio model a bit different from mine, similar specifications though. I thought it would not be such a good idea to flash my BIOS with this file, but I did it anyway, again with AFUWIN. Oh my God am I sorry now?! And here comes the part you are all expecting I presume - my laptop won't boot now! When turn it on I get nothing on the screen, not even the VAIO logo, nada! The CPU fan just starts spinning, the CD check at startup completes, than the CPU fan starts spinning for a few seconds at what I presume is its maximum speed and the laptop then turns off by itself. That's all. Here are some specs and steps I carried out so far: Laptop make and mode: Sony Vaio VPCEA24FM Motherboard: Foxconn ML194V-0 E253117 It appears to have: AMI-Aptio BIOS, the writing on the motherboard says AMI-Aptio NB 2006 AL 03 6312. To be honest I couldn't recognize any good from this name, I was not able to find anything that could help me about this bios like kind of chips, datasheets etc. The latest version of the BIOS is R0300Y08.ROM and I flashed with one which I beleive was R0260Y8 or R0280Y6, not sure which one. I tried all the AMI BootBlock recovery solutions I found here (I am not saying I managed to find all of them, that's why I am writing this post) but none of them worked for me I tried the one where the bios should call a recovery sequence and should look fro AMIBOOT.ROM file, tried renaming the file to Y0.rom, Y8.rom, I tried all kinds of key combinations - nothing! I should mention that i do not have a floppy drive so I am trying to recover via CD or USB Flash drive. I tried making them bootable using various tools, tried just copying the ROM files to them with the specific names and then using different key combinations - not working... I shell get one if I have to but I am wandering if there is any way I do it using CD/DVD or USB Flash drive, like I said. Do you have any idea what else can I try? I did not manage to identify which elements from the motherboard contain the BIOS, as I would assume there should be two 6/8 pin chips, so I haven't tried any tricks with shortening some pins etc. in order to force a recovery. If you guys have any ideas, please, let me know! I am willing to try anything before I send my laptop for service. Also here is a link of what the motherboard looks like: h.ttp://archiwumallegro.pl/plyta_glowna_10_nowa_sony_vpceb1e0e_pcg71312m-1642941205.html (please ignore the dot in the beginning of the link and use copy-paste) I will be looking forward to any replays! Thanks in advance for all your efforts!
you will have to do a SPI programmer since u flashed wrong ones. cheapest SPI programmer i seen is EN25T80 and SOIC 8 test clip to attach to bios chip from programmer. use universal extractor to extract the file from the .exe use hex editor to compare backup.bin from the chip to the one downloaded. compare the first and last line of backup.bin to find it in the R0300Y8.ROM extracted from exe
Hello, I ask for help. Toshiba Satellite C660D PSC20E win7 x64 set - renewed driver and lines pulled me to renew a bios . the вобщем sewing of bios made " off successfully" - the system went away in ребут, I was even happy . But that was not here. at loading is a black screen, ventilators spin, as soon as I include - CD/DVD blinks a drive, if to connect флешку - she will blink similarly, burns then, напруга goes to her. At pressure of ctrl+alt+del as though as overloaded(connected on usb flash stops to burn on the floor of sec., and catches fire again). connected an external monitor(well how small, what that showed oneself too living) to him - there is not a signal Tried to recover so: ____________________________________________________________ Toshiba Satellite C660D PSC20E use AMI EFI. According to andyp's Phoenix SLIC Mod tool, recovery filename is AMIBOOT.ROM. So need to rename BIOS.ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM. Which one (DIS or UMA)? I don't know. The BIOS recovery procedure probably simple like this:- Put AMIBOOT.ROM in USB flash drive (FAT32). Plugged in the USB flash drive to your notebook. Make sure notebook in power off state. Removed the battery. Also unplugged the AC adapter. Known hotkey to trigger BIOS recovery on Toshiba Satellite is Fn+B. So, press Fn+B while plugging in the AC adapter & press the power button. (You still need to press Fn+B when you press the power button) Let it run for 5 minutes (until CPU fan stop or shutdown or reboot???) Power off notebook & then power on it again. See whether BIOS recovered successfully or not. _______________________________________________________________ all turns out, Fn+B works(heard on the turns of culer) from flash something is read, but nothing is not sewn. on the web-site toshiba - a bios is packed in an exe archive, in it file of exe for sewing and two folders of DIS and UMA in each of them for two files of bios.rom(2 048 kb) and ec.rom(128 kb) (as I understood - basic and KBC). Where found that it is necessary to sew UMA, although tried already and that and that, and thomeone (found on _1bios.ru/bios/notebook/toshiba/toshiba-satellite-c660d-186, there even Part No : PSC20E - 00J018RU coincides, and sewing 1.40 as for me was). Renamed the file of bios in the different names of AMIBOOT.ROM, bios.fd, bios.rom, PWWBEU.rom. flash card tried formating to fat, fat32, thus on fat 32 though there is there a file of bios, though no blinks long, and on fat is sex of mines where that. who can to prompt a filament how exactly there AMI a bios(it is nowhere written) . for phoenix-биоса in fact is needed CRISIS DISK _forum.ixbt.com/topic.cgi?id=17:39280 (under my model there is not such). There is such sense - that with the file name I do not guess, and that that empty флеш on fat 32 blinks constantly to me disliked, I will farther torment in fat. your ideas on this occasion? BIOS (I think) AMI Aptio, filenames AMIBOOT.ROM, PWWBEU.rom. sorry for english, it`s translater
usb floppy might be needed and AMI key is usually END or HOME if im correct. i thinks with SHIFT or CTRL + Home or END
thank you for an answer. But floppy disk only 1,44 Mb, and image of bios are 2 048 кб, it will not climb. I will try your keys of accelerators with a flash card

I not found it, i take off battery for a night - not help Can you tell me what flasher I need to flash this bios chip? (I can solder) Anyway thanks a lot for helping.
Hey LatinMcG, Thanks for the replay! This is bad news, though. There aren't any chips that are on sockets on the motherboard so I assume this would suggest soldering. Furthermore some extended programming skills would be required which I don't have. Is it 100% sure that there is no other way if I flashed with an incorrect file? How about the BootBlock recovery, do you think I messed it up with this BIOS? My guess is that even though the ROM was for another model laptop and even if I re-flashed the bootblock section as well (somehow...), there shouldn't be difference in both recovery sequences, isn't that right? I haven't tried using external floppy yet but I am not sure this will help as like I said the BIOS file is 2MB so I would need a HighDensity FDD, which is not easy to be found, especially external one using USB interface... I am open to any other suggestions, please. If not, I believe the best option is to send the laptop for servicing instead of trying my soldering skills on it (not funny actually...). Thanks!
PS: sorry for my english, i'm french :/ i did my best to whrite without errors Hi, i have an Toshiba Satellite C660D - PSC1YE, i flashed the bios with the file from support site (ver.1.60), but i was listening music during process and the computer freezed then it dead .. i tried to flash the bios with the recovery option (fn +b) i put the bios on a flashdrive penstick 4gb fat32( i tried fat16 too) but it don't work, i can hear the cpu fan ,and the usb led blinks but nothing else .. i let that during 10min+ but nothing .. I tried renaming the bios file but don't work (AMIBOOT.rom, bios.rom, PWWBED.rom ..) The laptop is ATI gpu there is 2 folder in the bios setup : DIS and UMA wich is the correct one ? Plus there is two file in each folder DIS , UMA : bios.rom 2048KB ec.rom 128KB with Pheonix mod tool it found two recovery files name : DIS Folder : AMIBOOT.ROM PWWBED.rom UMA Folder : AMIBOOT.ROM PWWBEU.rom Need i rename : ? bios.rom to AMIBOOT.ROM & ec.rom to PWWBED.rom ? or inversly ? upcase and lowercase are important ? I'm still a noob in the world of bios or programming can someone help me please ? it's the laptop of my friend :'( i did this update it's my fault i need to repair it :/ Thanks !
DIScrete video = separate video card not built in to motherboard. UMA (unified memory arch) is built in. im trying to find bios files for it from site... the right ones for PSC1YE C660D-13Q C660D-19X C660D-143 and many more models which is yours ?? C660-???? under laptop ?
EN25T80 programmer with SOIC 8 test clip make a backup.bin and post it when we merge the bios dload to the backup.bin and save as fixed.bin to flash back.
I have what seems to be exactly the same problem as Scellow with my Toshiba Satellite C660D-1C6 (model number PSC1YE-01W008EN). Back in November I updated the bios to version 1.6 after an alert message from Toshiba Tempro - and when i re-booted it came up with a blank screen (fan spinning, num lock LED light on). So I assumed somehow BIOS had got corrupted. Since then I have been playing around with it trying to re-flash the BIOS which i extracted from the 1.6 update. As Scellow said in his message, there are two folders (UMA and DIS) each with one BIOS.rom and each with a ec.rom file. From my own digging around I have come to the conclusion this was a phoenix BIOS (probably incorrectly) and so have been trying various versions of Phoenix crisis disk and Phlash 16 (and 17) ro re-flash the BIOS (tried both UMA and DIS BIOS versions). So far no success. So I guess I have a number of questions...and please excuse my ignorance on these matters: i) how can i confirm from the BIOS update file whether I have a PHoenix Bios, AMI Bios or something else? Do I use Andy's tool, if so how? ii) depending on type of BIOS how do i find the correct recovery name to rename the BIOS.rom file (so far I have been using BIOS.WPH iii) I am pretty sure that holding fn+B whilst switching on is the correct key combination to re-flash, because the fan starts up on fulll power and the USB stick lights up and flashes as if being read, but ius there any other combination i should use iv) how can I find out whether i should use the UMA or DIS version of the BIOS - I have no idea if i have an integrated graphics card v) Do I need to re-flash the EC rom file as well as the bios file Sorry for asking all these basic questions, but i would really appreciate any help anyone could give thanks eddie
