So what can I do if I can't get my laptop to attempt to boot off the usb floppy? I removed the hard drive and cd-rom and its not even trying the floppy drive.
Sadly I need a little help, just flashed the ecs p965t motherboard with a bios from here and it is now very useless with a few blocks on screen. I have read all of the pages here and tried the Award boot recovery disk with a good bios on it, but when powered on it dosn't even try to read the floppy. Have tried also pushing ctrl+home with same results. Any ideas. Thanks in advance.
Sorted, well sort of, I dug out an old willem eprom programmer and found it had a socket for the bios chip on it. Programmed with the bios from the website and all is ok. Re-tried the modded bios, still no go. So will kindly ask someone in the modding department to mod my bios that works. Phew, thought I had lost a good board there for a while, and now I can play with bios's with no fear of problems. Thanks all.
Well I went on ebay and bought another motherboard, $100. Is it possible to get a working copy of the hacked bios so I can put vista on it? If one of you guys does it, it can be posted in the Request section and I'll find it... I just don't want another one to mess up my system.
Should I start my own thread? Picked up a TuL (foxconn rebadge) AM2 board from newegg. (TRS690-MI) It uses an AMI BIOS. DLed the BIOS from the TUL website, tried SLP and SLIC modding it using the AMI_SLIC3_20080419 found here. Loaded BIOS SLP Dell Computer ; ´÷¶û OEM WINDOWS2003 SLP and for SLIC DELL ; DELL SLIC for OEM VISTA Ported it over to AM2 computer winflashed it with AMIs windows tool. It finished. I did not restart right away restarted PC later and its bricked. I have no speaker let alone a place to attach a speaker on the mobo, so no bios beep codes. Tried the AMIBOOT.ROM on a floppy and it accesses the FLoppy drive.. (makes a whirr, then some clicks, then a pause, then repeats) So it obviously is not reading it. Tried the steps in the OPs post for method 3 of AMI flash recovery. However, you can not use HP tool to make a regular floppy (That I can tell) So I tried making a USB stick... launched HP tool pointed it at minidos... dropped the autoexec, amif895 and amiboot.rom on the usb stick plugged it in and no love. Tried the ctrl+home too but still no light on the USB stick. Oh should point out there is a mistake in method 3 of AMI recovery. autoexec says AMIF895, but the download is AMF895. Will try and figure out another way to make a floppy with miniDOS because a regular DOS bootable disk uses too much space (amif895 and BIOS file totalt almost 1.2MB...) Any suggestions? Not looking forward to the RMA questions...
Thanks zort giving it a whirl now on an old XP box. Running into read errors on floppy when trying to format DMF 1024, going to try 2048 Tried just using the IMA you linked but got a CRC error. Tried formatting it tried writing the image... no matter what it errors at 63 or 64% 2 floppys now... EDIT: WHEE Floppy 3 did it. Actually I think it was the fresh DL and not to the server. DLed it straight to this PC Going to go try it on bricked PC No Love Just whir click pause whir click pause. Eject the floppy and the noise continues. Guess it never read it
