Identical description for my Acer 5610 SLIC 2.1 flash.
If method #1 (using USB stick) doesn't work, is there any sense in trying method 2 (using USB floppy)?

i would like to thank this forum and here is my reason.

well i have a gateway ML6231 and i went to flash the bios and it messed up so i was left with a dead laptop with a black screen. after reading and reading about this Phoenix_Crisis_Recovery thing i tested about 10 diffrent pen drives and nothing worked. i tested all diffrent button combos with WINKEY + B and WINKEY + F , WINKEY + ESC nothing worked.

i went to the store right next to me and bought a USB FLOPPY DRIVE i ran the
Phoenix_Crisis_Recovery.exe and added my bios to it after reading a diffrent thread where a person said on a gateway WINKEY + R made the floppy blink more then before i tested that and guess what
WINKEY + R + USB FLOPPY + Phoenix_Crisis_Recovery + BIOS restored the unit back to the normal and then shut down and i powered it back up to see it working again :)

so please add this to the starting of the thread for anyone with a GATEWAY NOTEBOOK WITH A BAD FLASH
METHOD #2 WORKED WITH USB FLOPPY + BIOS + WINKEY +R

Hey studio, did your laptop show any signs of life like spinning fans, beeps, flashing LEDs before the recovery?

Also, it's not clear from your description whether Winkey+R or USB floppy or both saved the day for you.

let me re do my info

ok so my gateway ML6231 got messed with during a bios flash when i turned on the notebook i had a BLACK SCREEN FAN SPIN , DVD ROM READS nothing else happend.

so i made the recovery floppy and held WINKEY + R and booted the floppy started PC still black and floppy seeking took about 3 to 4 mins till it stoped the pc then shut off and i turned it back on to see that the bios was back to normal

yes the WINKEY + R and USB FLOPPY SAVED ME

i tested a bunch of PEN DRIVES and none of them would boot. the only device that would boot the recovery floppy was the USB FLOPPY DRIVE i bought at the store also the floppy will not seek untill u WINKEY + R at BOOT UP so WINKEY + R is he key for this GATEWAY

I got GA-8i945GZME-RH (award bios) dead because of bad flash (flashing when too sleepy = dead mobo). I dont have any Floppy drive but i can make bootable USB stick. Will it work?

    Updated:
Well, it works but the problem actually not bad bios BUT wrong type of Bios flashed! Someone flashed the motherboard with GA-8i945GMF and now it wont revert to original GA-8i945GZME. When i tried using provided flasher from gigabyte, it said Wrong Type of BIOS. Any idea to fix this?

    Isn't methods 3 and 4 not duplicates of 1 and 2?

I asume you ask for Phoenix bioses...
Metod 1 and 2 doesn't flash the complete bios, e.g. doesn't flashes the BBL ( Boot Block ) and the DMI area.
While method 3 and 4 flash do a complete bios flash.
The diference between method 1 and 2 is the DOS used.
Method 1 uses minidos, while method 2 uses the Phoenix crisis DOS.
The same goes for method 3 and 4, they just do a complete flash of the bios.

    Hope this helps...:)

I had this a few months ago and i needed to replace the chip...but as it was old it was not available and so finally had to replace...

I don't think it can be fixed without a chip replacement as there is no POST or anything at all. Its like the BIOS has been rubbed clean. But I could be wrong...

    Thanks petar.
But how do you know when to flash the BBL ( Boot Block ) and the DMI area or not?

I read the methods, they seem exactly the same. So are the files different is method 1 & 3 and 2 & 4?

Well, the autoexec.bat files are diferent for method 1,2 and 3,4.
Since BBL flashing is not recomended I advice you to first try and recover the board without flashing the BBL in hope that the BBL wasnt damaged during the bad flash.
Method 3 and 4 flash the BBL.
Couse if you damage the BBL the recovery is almost imposible.

    HI,
yesterday i brick my Thinkpad X41t with bad bios. At the moment its boot till PXE Ethernet Card text and than stop.
I tried all of the methodes from firts page, but i think the problem is to initiate the recovery procedure, cause Fn+B,+ESC +K don't work for me.
Anyone any experience with Thinkpad recovery?

    Best regards...

Just a quick question to anyone who may be able to help.

Bad flash on a Foxconn VIA PT890 Motherboard, upshot is the following:

PC POSTS but I cannot access the PS2 keyboard to enter the BIOS.
I can see the DVD drive, HDD, Memory etc all posting, then 'bad checksum error' 'you have 2 seconds to press F2' but by this stage the keyboard is dead the PC finishes POSTING and I'm left with a flashing cursor.

This is all after clearing cmos, draining all power etc etc unplugging drives

I don't have a floppy and even if I did I know I had boot from floppy disabled in the BIOS before things went south.
I have made a bootbale cd/usb key with good bios and awdflash but it doesn't work.

The fact the PC is POSTING okay - is that a sign that this is recoverable?

It's the keyboard thing that's killing me - it works right up until i get the message to hit F2 - then I can't!
I've googled myself to sleep looking for the answer to this but nada.

Am I looking at getting a replacement bios chip (fairly cheap it has to be said)?

    Thanks

I have a problem with my EVGA 112-CK-NF75-K1 (7100/630i) mobo after
attempting to add slic 2.1 myself and screwing up and flashing anyway to
see if it worked only to have it give me the "cmos checksum error defaults
loaded" and having to press F1 to continue booting into my computer. I've
tried reflashing with winflash and it gives me the error "onboard bios not award
bios" and won't let me reflash. I'm not able to use a floppy drive to boot but
I found I'm able to use my flash based mp3 player as a flash drive to boot from
and tried with a bios downloaded from the evga website and awdflash reported
the part number in the bios is different from what's on my motherboard and I
also tried using a modified bios from one of the members on here with no luck.
Could someone assist me in getting it flashed or let me know if I'm going to have
to RMA it back to the manufacturer. Thanks in advance.
