1. Right click on the desktop. 2. Choose "Personalize". 3. On the left hand side of this control pannel, click "Change desktop icons." 4. There was a box that was checked next to "Allow themes to change deskop icons." When I unchecked this box and restarted my computer, all my desktop icons remained where I had them. I both shut down my computer completely and restarted my computer and after both times, all my desktop icons remained where they were. Note: I had changed my original desktop background, so it seems that when this box was checked, Windows 7 would rearrange the icons based on how they thought the icons would best look with whatever desktop background you have. Hope this helps.

1. Windows Media Center (DNLA) devices 2. When accessing Windows Media center library from a DNLA enable device (ONKYO Receiver) windows will complete lock up and it has to be re-started. 3. the only fix I found so far is to reboot the machine, which means I have to walk down to the machine a cold boot it, since the machine won't respond at all to keyboard commands.
this apparently is caused by some kind on conflict (didn't look deeply into it yet) but i just installed 8 again and this was fixed by manually selecting the render (output) device or engine. usually most programs refer to system default and that's what was causing the issue for some reason, on my case selecting WMR9 Renderless for video, and the sound driver WDM for audio completely fixed any video and Audio problems,,, still going to tinker with it later on when i have more time, but my guess that it's driver compatibility issue still, (nVidia & Creative).
Thanks a lot! I had the same problem in 2 different computers with Realtek audio chips. Everytime I pause a Directshow audio/video player (It seems MediaFoundation codecs in WMP don't have this problem) the sound freezes after 30 seconds or so. Now with your hint I changed the audio output from foobar2000 and MediaPlayerClassic to "Speakers (Realtek)" and it works! Only problem is google Chrome don't have any audio output option and any paused video from youtube can bring the problem back.
