Maybe a compatibility mode should work.. Or try extracting the files from the setup, then modify the .inf file to make it work on 6.2. Maybe Intel will need to release official drivers for Windows 8. But I wonder why, since everything was perfectly OK on WDP and no major code change took place since then, I mean the kernel is same, WDDM is same.. Then what's the problem?
guess that's the situation but as tablets are the future I'm wondering that this is not implemented first to get running the new stuff Paul
I could not instal any intel drivers. I was told my driver "microsoft basic display adapter" was already newer. My solution was the ugliest of solutions. Install win7sp1, install all drivers there, update system, then upgrade to win8conpre. I still ended up with the newer driver in the end, and still resulting in "microsoft basic display adapter", but I was able to choose more resolutions and the system was more responsive having the proper intel installation in win7sp1 then upgrade to win8, than just bare fresh win8 install. It's longer process, but it may be worth the effort in the end.
Exactly! The ones on Intel site are older than the one Windows is upto installing. Even though the Microsoft Basic Display Driver is WDDM supported, still it doesn't have OpenGL 1.4 support!!! If you install the older version, it crashes, and device manager shows a problem with it.. Also, resolutions, brightness and all can be set only if that Basic driver is installed. This sucks! I just hope Intel releases new drivers, well, they should, coz they did that for Windows 7 after Vista. I have an old one (WDDM 1.0) driver. But Intel released an update for Windows 7 too. Let's hope they do the same for Windows 8, coz are cards are very much compatible with it.
This is on the igdlh64.inf file: I installed an older driver from the CD that came with the Motherboard. Installation was successful and it supported OpenGL 1.4 but both Desktop and Metro IE crashed when opening after installing the driver. And none of the Metro Apps worked. So I reverted back to WDDM 1.1 Now OpenGL 1.4 is not supported anymore. I will try to modify the above .inf file and see what happens.
Don't tell me! I wrote a tutorial on how to install those drivers this morning, and it has not been approved yet.. All metro apps and OpenGL, working fine! It took me so long to type that tutorial (It was 25 steps!) and I just hope it gets approved.
Yes, opengl support is pretty broken on win8conpre. I reported earlier in this thread about issues with vlc when choosing opengl for output. Some one said that it's an program compatability issue, not a bug, but since anything I encounter that wants to use opengl, either crashes, or causes max cpu usage combined with a memory leak, it's def a win8 bug with opengl. -edit: Oh yeah, the reason I came to post: the "safely remove" icon on systray varies from system to system. One system has the vista icon, my laptop has the win7 icon.
My Desktop Icons keep re arranging when I start my computer. I place them in order and they are all re arranged when I start the computer. Any solutions, never happened in the previous edition of windows 8 release.
Windows 8 installs and works well on my standard hard drive but if I install to my GSkill SSD, on first boot everything works fine. After one reboot the mouse sticks like crazy and I can not access the metro screen or the charms bar, when using the mouse, the entire Op system is pretty much unusable after a single reboot. Windows updates doesn't fix or cause the problem, installing mouse drivers doesn't change a thing, it's something with the SSD. I'm thinking of downloading the .iso and then burning it again. Update: After working on this problem more I've discovered that my Logitech G15 keyboard is causing the problem but only when I'm using it with my SSD drive. Other people have similar complaints at the Logitech forum. Unplugging my G15 keyboard gets rid of the problem instantly. Using compatibility mode when installing the Logitech drivers doesn't seem to help. Still working on this problem. Update: Changing to a different standard old Logitech keyboard fixed the problem completely. So we can conclude that Logitech G9 gaming keyboard + SSD drive + Windows CP 8 = freezing mouse in corners therefore no mouse access to Metro or charms bar. This was also confirmed to be a bug at the Logitech forum.
Did you delete the iso you downloaded already? If not, check the checksums to make sure they match. If they do, no need to download iso again. If they do not match, then it's clear you must redownloaded the iso. Also, about the SSD install: a- Do you have the latest firmware for the drive? b- Does your motherboard bios have an option for AHCI settings? If so, turn on AHCI and then install the OS.
I've got an issue with the Weather App (the "native" one). My default "place" takes a while to render its page and information (just a blank screen, initially - takes, at least, 7 or 8 times clicking on it before it renders and, sometimes, even then - still a blank screen), however, the secondary "places" will render such almost immediately. I've tried switching the default a number of times - same thing, so it's not the "place." Anyone else? BTW, I'm referring to the full screen (after clicking the "place" thumbnail) as the thumbnails all show their relevant information properly and quickly.
