Yeah, the fact 162 is working makes it seem much more likely it's a bad iso. Not to mention he has the problem on 2 PCs both running 162..certainly seems obvious that is the problem.
Don't upgrade, or just keep personal files, the upgrade from 10176 to 10240 broke the OS for me, I don't recommend it. If you can reinstall all of your apps easily just do a clean install.
do u even know what clean install is? is wiping out the HD........that will allow the install with out any errors.
No, it will not install without any errors. The C:\Windows\System32\mcupdate_GenuineIntel.dll file is BROKEN for specific Intel processors. It was fine in 10130 and earlier, broke ever since. Until the source for this file is changed, it will NEVER boot at all. Neither upgrade nor clean from ISO. (well, I shouldn't say never, a temp work-around was found in that if you disable one processor core it will work but that isn't really a solution)
from my own experience wiping the hd will not stop this error. I have wiped the hd at least 4 times, tried various methods to install, but always received the same error. if there is a way to change the source for that particular file or manufacturers update their bios firmware , we will continue having this problem. I think microsoft should remove this file which is causing this error
It's not only user problem. It's a well known error... Go read about it before posting useless posts.
thats funny i been doing this sense the beginning of the insider program using 3 different comps.... one of them a seven year old lenovo T400 and never run into this "well known error"
Pentium G3258 and same error here. Tried to upgrade from win8.1 but always fail, no matter from usb or mounted iso. Funny thing is after the failed upgrade, windows will somehow ignore my overclock setting from bios and set the cpu at its default frequency. Restart will not help. Only power off can fix it.
Ok on the lenovo Uninstalled everything still same error The installation failed during the SAFE OS phase with an error during BOOT operation 0xC1900101-0x20017 Si I tried a clean instal and that worked But it lost my activation There has to be something specific thats causing this error on both the surface pro and the lenovo
You should have taken a bare-metal before you clean install, there is a solution here forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/62768-The-installation-failed-during-the-SAFE-OS-phase-with-an-error-during-BOOT-operation?p=1092322#post1092322
Unfortunately some laptop bios don't have full options to configure like Number of active cores, or Execution Prevention... could anyone tweet this link to Gabe Aul?
i have tried everything but still no success. I think if microsoft were to disable the microcode patch within windows 10 then it will solve this problem. Other option, for motherboard manufacturers to issue a bios update. I personally have emailed both microsoft technical support and gigabyte support informing them about this problem. Both have not replied. As woniu mentioned, someone needs to inform Gabe Aul about this problem asap so they can sort it out before release date.
Sorted it now i did a clean install of 8.1 on each machine upgrade to win 10 rtm on both worked perfectly no need to disable safe boot and both pc's activated
