Have you tried to update or change your wireless driver? 7850 and 7955 are x86, 7989 is x64.

    windows 8 build 7989 x64 shutdown issues

I've installed windows 8 build 7989 x64 on my 2010 MacBook Pro Bootcamp and have been successfully using it enjoying all unlocked features for about 2 weeks now. I'm using this pre-beta as my primary operating system. I have had no major problems integrating to my company domain and using apps I usually use at work such as office 2010 apps, etc. Startup and Shutdown were amazingly fast, but lately, I'm unable to shutdown properly. If I click shutdown, it says shutting down and gets stuck there and I have to force shutdown and I dont really like doing that at all. I've waited 15 to 20 minutes waiting for it to shutdown and still doesnt The only other alternative I have is to restart, boot on mac and shutdown from there. This is ridiculous. I've searched many websites and forums looking for other people who have the same issue and tried things they suggested which solved their problems such as disabling tablet features in windows features > Programs and Features > Control Panel. But no luck.

Any insight into this issue is highly appreciated.

Also, please dont tell me not to use this pre-beta build for work related purposes or as main operating system, as i'm already aware of the drawbacks of doing so and still choose to do it for my own research and educational purposes.

Thank you all very much in advance.

    Hello kpo6969,

Thanks a lot! I disabled hybrid boot as suggested and was able to shutdown properly. I'll try shutting down a few more times to see if the problem is completely solved. Because, when I disabled tablet features as someone else suggested, I was actually able to shutdown properly for 2 to 3 times and after that, the problem returned and I could not shutdown properly. I hope this is a proper solution for my problem. ANyway, thanks a million. Will let you know if the problem returns like before, keeping fingers crossed.

    cheers,

    z

    Nvidia raid driver problem

after installation when booting win8 my sys hangs at 'starting windows' and gives nvdia.rd as error msg. I want to switch the win7 nvdia raid driver, or possibly only some of the files, into the win 8 driver repository replacing the existing file. Can someone tell me how to do this? Do I have to do this from a command prompt? Is there a way to switch prior to installation of win 8?

If your really having problems with shutdown (properly) and do not want hybrid boot.
    make a shortcut .. and the command is simply "C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 000 -full"

I don't think hybrid boot is the only cause of this, as I have still had this happen. It never happened before build 7989 for me.

Anyone have success sharing on a network between Windows 8/7 computers? XP is working fine sharing to/from Windows 7/8, but I cannot share between Windows 7/8 computers.

I have success on that. First, both win 8 and win 7 pc need to be jointed in the same group(I changed the WORKGROUP to different name), in the advanced sharing options, check files and printer for sharing, then right click the folders on both pc that you want to be shared and share them.
    Hope that helps.

    Click Start > Run > C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 000 -full

Only if your windows is on C:\

    Puzzle in 7989 Build Wallpaper

Some noticed that there are 3 letters added to the new wallpaper in the 7989 build of Windows 8. Could be the name of the next version of Windows will be the answer in this puzzle. Could be the features of Windows 8 be listed in the puzzle (like the 4 blurred square in the middle of the puzzle, could it be a word "wind" which was the codename of the 3D UI). Or is it just a strategy of Microsoft so that our attention will be diverted on this one? What do you think?
