It restarts fine for me when freshly installed and all programs are closed properly before restarting. It was restarting very quickly before I installed Quicktime actually. I had to do a hard shut off that last time. I left it sitting while it "restarted," came back to a black screen and a cursor. Did a hard shut down and everything is fine now, it even made the changes to my startup programs I wanted (which was the reason I was shutting down to begin with.)
If you are referring to my post about Nvdia Raid then I am not sure what you are asking me. The model of the ASUS MB is a8n32 SLI Deluxe, I am using the onboard Nvdia raid in 0 mode and works fine with win7, crashes at windows starting in win8, refers to raid error, nvdia. I see also my attempt to start a new thread was thwarted by the moderator moving my post to this catch-all thread. I would appreciate any references to previous post about win8 and nvdia raid. I have not found such with my searching this win8 forum.
New/Renamed/Removed Services in Windows 8 (7989) Had a bit of free time so here you go. First is the display name.Second is the startup option (most run manually). The * means it won't allow you to change this and third is the name in registry (if you use batch file or commandline to configure services you need this name) I was most suprised by the removal of Desktop Window Manager Session Manager as this service is one of the most essention Win7 services. dwm.exe or Desktop Window Manager still runs in Windows 8 but there is no service controlling it.For now atleast.
1. Can you tell me which services are not needed? 2. How can I stop or disable the services like Broker Infrastructure? Thanks in advance.
It's not the same, win7 doesn't have Broker Infrastructure among other services. (just like what you said in your original post)
I am sure this has been discussed for a long time but anyway, I have downloaded the shsxs package that was provided somewhere around page 20 of this thread and I have noticed that the regkey wont apply (sets back to default as soon as you close regedit)
It's not the same, win7 doesn't have Broker Infrastructure among other services. (just like what you said in your original post) To disable this Go to Start - Run - Regedit then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BrokerInfrastructure and double click the Start DWord and change from 2 to 1. Restart Windows and that service will be stopped.
here i made it a little bigger, i mean really, he posted a link to 'HOW TO DISABLE A SERIVCE' not how to disable service X ..
Precisely.Google any windows service tweak guide.Replace service name with one from my post (the third short name) and you're done.Configuring services has changed little over the years and i see no radical changes in Win8 either.
so i got a question here. im using the 7989 build atm. but i appears i am the only one here unable to install windows live essentials. i do understand this is an early build and stuff but if it works for other people. i got some error with watson-x64 or something like that. so do i need to adjust some things??
Import this in a .reg file: Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug] "Auto"="0" Perhaps helps but no quarantees.
