Hi guys. First, thank you for BypassEsu Blue. Almost all servers with 2012R2 got ESU updates perfect, but not all. Servers with ADDC role installed still see no ESU updates. Tested on 4 servers and all got same results. Can it be DNS cause (ADDC require 127.0.0.1 as first DNS in network adapter settings)? Applied BypassESU Blue v2, reseted datastore and added WSUS proxy, running WSUS proxy while manual checking updates - still nothing. But only at servers with ADDC role installed.
@JorichoMan I have no experience in AD DS or DNS servers you can test changing wsus server to 127.0.0.2 in Add_wsus-and-Reset_DataStore.cmd save and run, then check for updates
Nope, that does not help. Also tried to remove 127.0.0.1 from DNS-servers at IPv4 network settings. WSUS proxy log show activity as on other servers, but no updates found
It is two VMs with 2012R2 Standard with ADDS role installed, under HyperV cluster based on 2019 Datacenter hosts. Second cluster based on 2012R2 Datacenter hosts got same problem with another 2 VMs with ADDS roles and 2012R2 Standard OS. All 4 of these VMs has problems with ESU updates. Any other VMs with 2012R2 Standard at both clusters works perfect with BypassESU Blue.
As much as I have hated Windows 8 since it was released more than 10 years ago, I decided to try it out in a 4th generation Dell desktop that was donated to me which came with Windows 8. I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and got it up to date to its January 2023 EOL. I then deployed the BypassESU-Blue-v2 tool. I then installed the Windows 8.1 Embedded updates (SMQR, MNF 4.8, SSU) that were available February 2023 - July 2023. Beginning with August 2023, is it okay to install the Windows Server 2012 R2 updates? I already checked, and there are updates available August 2023 - January 2024. Update: Since I was not getting any replies to my thread, I decided to install the Windows Server 2012 R2 64-bit updates listed below. Everything went fine and there was no warning message that none of them could not be installed. There was a total of 10 reboots to get all 6 months of updates installed, so it took about an hour. 2023-08 KB5028957 MNF 4.8 KB5029312 SMQR KB5029368 SSU 2023-09 KB5029917 MNF 4.8 KB5030269 SMQR KB5030329 SSU 2023-10 KB5031003 MNF 4.8 KB5031419 SMQR 2023-11 KB5031994 MNF 4.8 KB5032249 SMQR KB5032308 SSU 2023-12 KB5033420 SMQR 2014-01 KB5033915 MNF 4.8 KB5034171 SMQR KB5034587 SSU
Thanks for making me aware of that. I wasn't sure if I needed to install the updates for all 6 months, or if I could've bypassed the first 5 months and installed the updates ONLY for the last month. I just discovered in another thread that Windows Server 2012 R2 ESU updates don't end until October 2026. If that's true, Windows 8.1 will live on for quite a while longer.
abbodi1406: After doing a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit which was integrated with updates to January 2023, I deployed the BypassESU-Blue-v2 tool and then rebooted. Windows Update was already set to check for updates, but not to download and install them. After waiting for several minutes, Windows Update didn't detect and display any Windows 8.1 64-bit Embedded updates to install. I did a manual "check for updates" and waited for the scanning process to finish, and there still were none detected and displayed. I then went to the Microsoft Update Catalog site and searched for the available SMQR and MNF 4.8 and SSU for the months of February 2023 - July 2023, then I manually installed them. I then had to do the exact same thing with the available Windows Server 2012 R2 64-bit updates for the months of August 2023 - January 2024. The entire process took about 2 hours. Is the tool designed to work that way, or did I do something wrong?
I only use the embedded updates on the 32-Bit version of 8.1. On 64-Bit I use the Server updates. If you want embedded updates I'm pretty sure you can only get those with the registry change: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion] "EditionID"="EmbeddedIndustry" I could be wrong but that's how I've always done it. (Edited as I originally put in the Windows 8 registry entries)
@CaptainSpeleo BypassESU-Blue does not alter or touch anything related to Windows Update you need to manually change EditionID registry as @Burdus77 pointed this only works for Embedded updates 2023-02 ~ 2023-07 for Server 2012 R2 updates, you have to use WSUS_Proxy, or install the updates manually
Thanks for your very clear explanation. Now that Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit is already up to date to January 2024 in this newly inherited Dell desktop, manually installing new updates every "patch Tuesday" is not a problem. I have never used WSUS_Proxy, so I will look into it.
abbodi1406: After I install Windows 8.1 Pro (which is up to date to January 2023), I deploy the BypassESU-Blue-v2 tool and do a restart. Is it necessary to install Windows 8.1 Embedded updates for February 2023 - July 2023 before installing Windows Server 2012 R2 updates for August 2023 - January 2024? Or is it okay to install ONLY Windows Server 2012 R2 updates for the entire post-EOL period of February 2023 - January 2024?
So it's not necessary to install all 12 months of Windows Server 2012 R2 updates from February 2023 to January 2024? Only the January 2024 updates are needed? KB5033915 MNF 4.8 KB5034171 SMQR KB5034587 SSU That's great to know and will save me a couple of hours of work. Thanks!
