Very good forum, but i am a little confuse. I read many, but server 2012r2 needs the bypassesu software? i read that its gives a new method, with faild reboot and mainfest copy on the hackandpwn analys . What are the serious method ?
BypassESU software is still needed. What I said was to ease searching for updates on 2012r2 by using a registry key I found while playing around, instead of running a proxy (“fake”) WSUS server every time or installing the updates manually; I was able to find a permanent solution to replace a temporary solution. 8.1 still needs BypassESU and the proxy (or manual installation) since its Windows Update cannot be permanently patched to find Windows Server 2012 [R2] updates unlike on Windows 7 and earlier. However, I reported some success on my 8.1 machine by changing the HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\ProductOptions\ProductType string to ServerNT and then checking for updates without closing the registry; I was able to install the latest 2025-02 Patch Tuesday update from 8.1 WU with no issues, however it didn’t work on my VM. If you have 8.1, please try it and tell us if it works. Oh and don’t forget the ArcESU key. I will stop using 2012 R2 on my PC in a matter of 1-2 months, as I will migrate my server environment to another PC I got, with Srv2025 (I still need to give it some upgrades before doing so).
Now you can activate ESU TSforge Activation (Windows/ESU/Office) (MAS) but ESU suppressor still useful for Server / required for Win 8.1/8
Changing the string to ServerNT and leaving the registry open did not work on my W8.1 Even though you type a new name and the GUI displays that change, the system doesn't register it. After making the change, I refeshed the open GUI with F5 and the value changed back to the original name, so leaving it open has the same effect as closing - the change is ignored by the system.
Maybe the proxy did something to my system at this point. Even after uninstalling it, I still get 2012r2 updates on client.
