Honestly, yesterday in VM something made to me bug on Bypass Blue on Server 2012 R2 and he stopped work. Was something about trusted installer. I tested now back on vbox that.
I don't know what started blocking that. Someone met that too?

So there will be no updates for Windows 8.1? I hoped that they will live matching server version, (according to wikipedia until October 2026). And more over, planned to switch from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1, because of that.
ps and yeah, i am on real h/w

Nope, 2025-06 Monthly Rollup KB5061018 is the end of the line for Windows 8.1

maybe when Server updates ends on October 2026, we could hack-modify the last Rollup to install properly on Win 8.1

It would be super nice! But frankly speaking it is quite ironic to see win 8.1 eol earlier than win 7 (three month more to be precise)

It ended 7 months prior, not 3; 7 is still supported, as well as Vista, till January

Technically, Windows Vista survived but is not completely updated (there are Server-only packages that will be skipped), Server 2008 SP2 is completely updated, 32bit and 64bit.
Windows 7 half-survived, as the 32bit version is dead for a year, while the 64bit version is completely updated still (fallout from Server 2008 R2).
Windows 8.x is dead due to the removed client packages, Server 2012 and 2012 R2 still work (64bit only).

Paradoxically, old OS tend to become more secure over time, they are not targeted by bad actors that much anymore, as the tools for producing Malware will eventually start spitting out code that simply won't run on these old platforms.

In June, I literally made a post on the Windows Vista subreddit where I said Vista was the safest Windows of all because of this.

That's one of the reasons why I'm liking the niche OS that 8.1 is/was
Hated and ignored by most users, I doubt there are many malware or other stuff that specifically target 8.1 or even 8.x alltogether.

the only reason i am still don't using it is because i didn't know that it can be redecorated to match Win7 in a 98% way. If hackers port server updates i'll surely swith to 8.1 in the end of 2026! For now i am quite fine with Windows 7.

i just installed 2025-11 cumulative update over 2025-08 and did not have to replace the winload files anymore. it seems that the issue introduced by 2025-06 KB5062597 has been fixed by microsoft themselves. the file date is september now, so i assume they fixed it with the 2025-10 patch already.

    Hi,
The issue started with KB5062597 that is 2025-07 Cumulative Update. Microsoft dropped the 8.1 client-only components, and removed most of the client entries from the MUMs, but they can be added back.

They have a bug in the MSU installer that causes some server-only MUMs to be installed by default (even on client!), and others not, hence the BSOD due to components mismatch.

For Server & Client mutual components, they dropped the Client assembly support from the MUMs. The problem is that some components have a Shared/Core assembly marker, and those get always installed from the MSU, but without the drivers, the winload is toast.

TL;DR: Server editions were never a problem. For Client editions I strongly disagree with your analysis. The issues were not fixed by Microsoft.

    Yes!
