Nope I don't want to mess with MS in anyway. New version would have the same base. Moving token out, let spp trigger to take effect (may I can start this process or you just have to wait (so maybe also only 1 reboot is needed) and than work without all explorer values. I won't include any files from MS (also if this is the very very best solution) as this can cause trouble due some kind of license violations. This was a decision as I found an option to avoid Modern UI (and tested with W7 license files) Discussion methodes in a group is different than providing (files/)solutions. From my POV the current solution is the only legal way I can do it.
I have to say, I am using Wentutu Start Menu, and I feel great~ However, I would like operate a pure Windows 8!
personal recommendations: 1. replace xrm (clean, simple, not messing around - but this has to be done from everyone privatly) 2. use my way (best if you haven't activated yet and don't use forced mode (will be killed in next version)) 3. startisback (kills the function to show modern ui, clean as above solutions, cost little money but/and has w7 startmenu) 4. activate windows, disable spp, use product policy editor and change clienexperience value. (spp has to be disabled all over) (on problems reactivate and do the previous steps again - it will be all undone if you enable spp - so it's also pretty save to use) (maybe this explorer.exe,explorer.exe shell methode von josh is also good but haven't tested and i guess its also flickering around) haven't tested wentutu and I won't do. I'm using methode 4, as I also test with several other values. kost was so nice that he programmed it on my recommendations within a day.
Questions 1.Which System/Disc is the file from Win7 OR Win8 2.Is this RIGHT Goto C:\Windows\System32\spp\tokens\ppdlic & BACKUP explorer-ppdlic Copy & Paste explorer-ppdlic TO C:\Windows\System32\spp\tokens\ppdlic RUN THIS CMD: slmgr.vbs /ilc C:\Windows\System32\spp\tokens\ppdlic\explorer-ppdlic.xrm-ms Sign Out Twice. THANK YOU VERY MUCH ace2.
Yes. the commands are right. It is enough to just point to the other xrm. It doesn't have to be in ppdlic (but recommended to replace). (But to automate the process - and this was the main reason why I created a script and this application - you first have to take ownership, get permissions and so on.)
@KNARZ I think Bypass Modernui is a Fantastic tool & was the best method to Skip Metro (If not using a Start Menu Replacement e.g StartIsBack). I do not use a Start Menu Replacement (Not Needed) So i used Bypass Modernui to Skip Metro. Well done.
It is from: Windows 2012 Server b7959 x64 ...MD5 hash is same, Total Commander tells also file is same
Tested explorer-ppdlic from windows 7 ultimate x64 Works (Skips Metro) But Install/Configuration of Windows Update fails at the end of updates.
It's all related to the tokens.dat - did you run rilc or only ilc? My tests result that a single rilc command hurts the tokens.dat and updates won't apply. This has nothing especially to do wit the tool. (Take a nap now and looking forward for beer research later.)
What i did: 1.BACKUP explorer-ppdlic from C:\Windows\System32\spp\tokens\ppdlic 2.Copy & Paste windows 7 ultimate x64 explorer-ppdlic TO C:\Windows\System32\spp\tokens\ppdlic 3.USED THIS CMD slmgr.vbs /rilc C:\Windows\System32\spp\tokens\ppdlic\explorer-ppdlic
rilc has no paramter ilc has to be used for xrm files. you used rilc? you broke your token thanks to ms. (tested very extensivly)
How to use ilc cmd, Is this right slmgr.vbs /ilc C:\Windows\System32\spp\tokens\ppdlic\explorer-ppdlic
slmgr.vbs /ilc C:\Windows\System32\spp\tokens\ppdlic\explorer-ppdlic NOT Working (Error: 3002 File could not be opened.(ADODB.Stream)).
Skip Metro Using (windows 7 ultimate explorer-ppdlic): 1.Copy & Paste windows 7 ultimate explorer-ppdlic to Desktop (Win8) 2.Use this cmd slmgr.vbs /ilc %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\explorer-ppdlic.xrm-ms 3.Activate windows 8 4.Update & Restart Pc (Will Now Skip Metro) All done! ace2.
Use the file from the other it has the same ID You don't need to pull over the file into the directory but it's recommended.
