Hey there! First of all, thumbs up for the guys who created the bypass ESU! Good job! I have some questions though! Will the bypass make Microsoft Security Essentials work too? For a real-time protection? And... Will Windows Update work normally or will I have to download the updates manually? If it's manually, where can I find them? Thanks!
Can't answer. The bypass doesn't enable WU to find the ESUs, it only enables the possibility to install them.
And where can I find the updates? On the official Microsoft website? When do I know there are new updates? I mean... I have to check it from time to time?
Anybody knows? I followed the tutorial on a 32 bit version, the test update has been installed successfully... But will it work after 14th, 2020?
Nice. Thanks for this guys. I was hoping there would a solution that would let me stay on Windows 7 longer. At the current juncture is there anything required from the end user other than to install the bypass? Like is there any prerequisite updates that need to be installed?
Well it's still used by over 1% of the world's population, but more prevalent in China. Need I say more?
For that, we have to wait for the actual ESUs to come out on February. Right now, the only ESU update was a test update for administrators to check if ESU works or not (and which is what this bypass allowed to install). No doubt, someone will create a list of ESU updates to install, but it is a wait and see for now.
But M$ says the ESU updates delivery will be through WU, WSUS, SCCM, etc: What delivery options are available for Extended Security Updates? The updates will be delivered through all the usual update delivery processes, including SCCM Current Branch, WU, WUfB, and WSUS. The update will be programmed to look for the MAK activation on the endpoint, and it will install on only those systems together with the MAK key.
I can't believe it is so difficult to understand: This thread is only a proof of concept, nobody needs to install anything just now, it has been already tested and it works fine (so far, let's see on Feb/2020). You are making the author waste too much time to answer same questions all the time. Wait until after the very last update on January/2020 is released and update your PCs for the last time from standard WU service, then next month on February/2020 you may try this procedure to see if it works for you, maybe some changes/adjustments will be done to the procedure at that time.
Should KB4530734 (2019-12 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems) be installed? If so, before or after KB4531786? (Sorry if this has already been addressed - I haven't seen anything about KB4530734
Now that we know from @taviruni's post that we shouldn't install anything yet, should we do this at a specific time in February 2020 (like the 11th February 2020 or something)? Also, from @Carlos Detweiller's post, I suppose that Windows Defender's support will get cut. Not fair, considering I prefer it over Security Essentials (when I had so many problems with it in the past). Perhaps I should bring back Malwarebytes.
