I think M$ messed with the ESU updates. When installing KB4577061, it throws error code 80070661 - ERROR_INSTALL_PLATFORM_UNSUPPORTED. The other 2 updates installed without problems.

    Same here as well.
Tried also the standalone installer with no success. And now WU is nagging me about it! This is an outrage.

I think we need to wait for a compatibility update for the bypass...

    Same problem.
Either by installing the sept rollup ESU through WU or manually, it fails to install.
I hope MS didn't find out about the trick.
We will have to wait for the tool's author to reply and find a solution to fix this.

Same issue. I had 3 updates, the Monthly Security rollup, the .NET update, and a Windows Defender update. The Defender update installed with no issue. I installed the .NET bypass, and then that installed without issue. But two attempts at the monthly rollup resulted in Failure to configure Windows Update, an auto rollback, and back to desktop.

M$ released an updated ESU License prep pack on July 29, 2020. I installed that then retried the update. No joy.

The latest SSU failed with the KB4528069 trick.

I mean, the update was released a few hours ago. I think it's a bit premature to call it dead. Give the devs some time to take a look at it.

I do not get any code error, at the end of the process it said the updated was succesfully installed, but after the reboot, before the screen with Microsoft logo, it says: "Failure to configure Windows updates. Reverting Changes. Do not turn off your computer,”
