As was mentioned in Post #6800... Security Essentials/Defender are not part of the MicroSloth ESU program so they should continue.
Windows 7 ESU was end in 10 january 2023 Google Chrome 109-110 will be the last version that support Windows 7 Google Chrome end suppory for windows 7 in 10 january 2023 Firefox ESR will end support for windows 7 in august 2023 (dev they still discuss about the supporting windows 7 in firefox i think they support this because they want (windows 7 chrome users) to move to firefox browser that mean more marketshare for company) Rumours:Steam support will end in 2023 but unknown date or month if you want to use Windows 7 USE IT YOUR OWN RISK or use Linux Desktop like Zorin os,etc i think there is other browser that still support windows 7
that will not help you against big security hole in OS ,just move to Linux Desktop or use Windows 10 LTSC
Microsoft Security Essentials reached end of service on January 14, 2020 and is no longer available as a download. Microsoft will continue to release signature updates (including engine) to service systems currently running Microsoft Security Essentials untill 2023. Why is Microsoft Security Essentials no longer available? Windows 7 is no longer supported and availability of new installations of Microsoft Security Essentials has ended. We recommend all customers move to Windows 10 and Windows Defender Antivirus for our best security option. Will Microsoft Security Essentials running on my system continue to run? Yes, we will continue to provide signature updates for Microsoft Security Essentials until 2023.
Yes, but I will be on the lookout from the Devs of this forum for a means to use the updates from Server '08 and/or POSReady, on Windows 7.
The Microsoft Security Essentials 4.10.209.0 offline installer file can still be downloaded from Microsoft and installed in Windows 7. Once it is installed and you have a working internet connection, you can still update its definition files on a daily basis.
Haven't seen anything on this yet, has Mozilla made this official? As of today nightlies continue to work in Win 7.
I doubt that end of POSReady 7 support has any meaningful impact on Firefox suport for Windows 7. POSReady systems are not intended for direct use by end users. If Firefox will drop support for 7, they will do that with EOL of some of their ESR versions as they have done with Windows XP.
As of 01/26/2023 I continue to receive M$ update notices automatically through Windows Updates. Today I received the update below. They continue to install without problems or alerts. I am running FF 109.0. No alerts or warnings attached. My system is Acer Aspire 5733Z-4851 Win 7 HOME Premium. My Ungoogled chrome browser has a message that further updates have stopped unless I go to Win10 or ZORIN (Ubuntu/Linux). The folks ungoogling Google Chrome have found a way around that. Mine updated today to 109.0.5414.120 Ungoogled-chromium (64 bit). All of my other security software & general software continue to function & update properly. When my mainstream software stops supporting Win7 I will turn to ZORIN Pro full time. And I will continue to return here for updates from all of you & myself. Thanks to the incredible folks who started & supported this resistance to M$ greed & change. Have been computing since CPM & serial tape storage. Wrote my first programs on a mini-mainframe using COBOL & punch cards. ;>) It has been a good ride so far. One more try, none of those updates are ESU restricted nor related. They are not even considered updates.
Just wondering if anyone's mentioned 0patch.com yet? 2 yr more patches including Edge browser. Price seems reasonable.
