Having the regular (non-embedded) Win7 x86 now, and in the past doing the manual updates successfully, is the "Windows Embedded Standard 7 for x86" one actually OK to do going forward? I'm not sure what you mean by "different" above. Different as in incompatible with non-embedded?
You tried it on Embedded 7 Standard/POSReady? it does not work for regular Windows 7 -- Win Embedded is 100% Win Pro Monthly Rollups no longer include "quality fixes" since ESU started, whatever they have, security-only updates also have --- Just use the update labeled "Windows Embedded Standard 7", whether x64 or x86 depending on your OS Server 2008 R2 updates should not be considered at all
I need help, please. Using Windows 7 Pro, been installing all the updates via WU or manually with Update BypassESU-v11 enabled over the last couple years. Tonight, I installed/opened Update BypassESU-v12, and enabled .NET 4 ESU Bypass ONLY, without enabling the other 2 options.. Installed .NET Framework 4.8 for Windows Embedded Standard 7 for x64 (KB5022509), which went perfectly. Restarted windows, which then stopped loading on the Windows logo that displays at the beginning of the Windows logon. Ran forever, until I had to shut it down and restore my entire system from a backup.. I did NOT restart Windows right after I enabled the Bypass-v12/.NET 4 ESU. Is it possible THAT is the issue, so if I had restarted Windows beofre installing .NET 4.8, the system would have started correctly...or is something else going one. I need help please.
That is almost what simplix tool by @Enthousiast does . If I am correct you need one-click tool to update multiple systems without even opening windows update catalog . Simplix tool thread can be found in stickies
Seem to have a problem with update (5022872) Tried installing it last night and it went ok but today it's showing as failed, with no option to remove or retry. I tried to install it again and it says it's already installed. Any help, please
The same (identical codebase) also applies to Embedded POSReady 7 - right? Thus we should get updates until 2024-10-08 - awesome! Great, then I'll stick with the Monthly Rollups. Then I don't have to install updates for IE separately or worry about if I miss a month or so. Is there a way to tip you a coffee or so?

I bet KB5016891 and KB5016892 which provide fourth, fifth, and sixth year ESU licenses for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 is for serving customers who had purchased Premium Assurance.
I did some more digging and worked out what was casuing the issue. I have a program called "CryptoPrevent" installed on both PCs. It adds a lot of policies to the registry to stop ransomware. I temporarily disabled it and the Bypass installed!!
Another query, do I install security only updates, or security AND quality rollups?? Not sure I know what the differences are. Also, why is the 4.8 update an .EXE file and the 3.51 a .MSU file??
Maybe... I don't have edge, but I'd be surprised if that was actually the issue. Just don't do that patch I guess, if that really is what is causing the problem? I have some ideas why, but I don't know for sure. EIther way, it's not worth worrying about. As for the security only vs security and quality rollups, my understanding is that they amount to the same thing at this point (i.e. since ESU started). Since I'm not digging into the details each time, I'd recommend just installing the rollup to make sure you don't miss anything. That's what I'm doing anyway.
