Thanks for the wonderful script, I managed to use the CMD with the SSU and January's 2024 which I presumed is the last patch ever for Windows 7, but I saw there are actually patches for April too, so I supposed I missed that. But I did not install the .NET rollup though. Works well!
Sorry if this is a little offtopic but I can't find where to ask this. Windows Update offers me updates for all the Office products but it turns out that I only have installed Word, Excel and PowerPoint. That means that I have updates offered for Access, OneNote, Outlook and all the other Office programs, even when I don't have them installed in my computer. What should I do with those updates? Install? Ignore? Hide? My common sense tells me that there is no point in updating a program that I don't have, but with Microsoft I can never be sure of anything.
If you installed a suite (Standard, Professtional, Pro Plus...), you get updates for all included programs you can ignore those updates for non-installed programs
Perfect. It really made no sense to install all that but I just wanted to be sure. Thanks again for your kindness and patience.
Moin @ All! My May 2024 ESUpdate experience for Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 systems: "Licensing method": KB4528069 & "new" BypassESU-v12 "Installing method": Manual download and installation via Microsoft®Update-Catalog KB5037916 (Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 4.8) -> succesfully installed KB5037803 (Security Only Quality Update for Windows Embedded 7 Standard / Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) -> succesfully installed The following additional updates were offered by the Microsoft servers via the Windows Update Search and were also successfully installed: Security Intelligence-Update for Microsoft Security Essentials and .NET 6.0.30 Security Update for x64 Client (KB5038350). @ abbodi1406: Thx for your support! Great job!
Hello everyone. This is the first time I write in this forum. I'm not good at speaking English (my native language is Spanish), sorry for that. I have a mini laptop (also called 'netbook') with the following configuration: Atom N455 | 2 GB (1x2) SHDD 500gb (hybrid hard drive) | dual boot Win 7 Starter (Original OEM) + Manjaro XFCE x64 This laptop has all the updates installed to date including the ESU thanks to the instructions and patches published here. To date I had been able to install all the updates without problems, including those from Group B published on the askwoody site. Unfortunately, I cannot install a single April 2024 update. After finishing installing it and restarting, when the computer restarts I get the message 'Failed to install updates. Reverting the changes' and it does not install. I tried installing the May updates today from both group b on the Askwoody site and those offered by Windows Update and they installed without problems. But when I try the April 2024 KB5036922 update, the previously reported error occurs. I have tried resetting the windows update components, deleting the SoftwareDistributions folder and logs without success. I repeat again. The problem is only with the KB5036922 (32 Bits) update I would appreciate a quick response and your help. I think they do a great job for those of us who still have a computer with Windows 7 because we work with programs that depend on this system and because our HW prevents us from updating. I use Win 7 locally, for the internet I use the partition where I have manjaro installed.
I edit this to apologize to @jooecat for providing misleading & bad info. Drop down a comment to see the clarification. My own updates have gone smoothly for me. I always let WU tell me the updates are available then I download & install them from the MS catalog myself. For me that is easier. I do allow the OS & WU & WD to update the Win Defender files. Sorry again & thanks for the corrections below. ;>))
@John_3_16 Windows 7 Starter (Original OEM) only exists in 32bit. The x64 refers to Manjaro. Group B means "Security only". But, as we deal with Windows 7 here, which doesn't receive any feature updates anymore, there is literally no difference between the LCU and the SecOnly updates left. You can therefore just try the May LCU. If that installs, you're covered. But SecOnly updates are not cumulative* by design. Thus, even with the May SecOnly updates installed, the April one is still missing. You need to check the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log where it fails. *There are special cases where the same targets get patched multiple times, with only the newest change applying. Windows will still ask for the previous patches in these cases.
Thanks for the get back & clarifying explanation. My updates have been working fine for years now thanks to the great kind work of this crew here. It is @jooecat above who has the unique update problem. Maybe you could drop back a couple of comments & provide some help for him/her? My comment will only confuse his situation, not help it. Thanks again for the time, generosity & sharing of your knowledge & skills that keeps Win7 healthy. ;>))
Hello I've been busy and haven't been able to see your messages. You don't have to apologize, we have all made mistakes at some point and in this case it was only an involuntary error since obviously we all know that win 7 starter is only available on x86 (32 Bit) architecture. Regarding what you say about updating via Windows Update Windows, Microsoft's software and WDefender (this is not my case. I use a third-party AV); I have always done that without problems but here I am raising the problem with a particular update that belongs to the ESU updates (therefore they are not always delivered via wupdate) that need the unofficial patches and methods published here to keep our systems always updated that is possible.
I still don't understand what the proposed solution on your part would be. I don't understand what I should install, since the May update for Win 7 Embedded x86 (KB5037803) installed without problems on my computer with Win 7 Starter x86. This update (KB5037803) corresponds to Group B of monthly updates for Windows 7, published on the Askwoody site. Awaiting for an answer. Thanks.
__________________________________ How could I share the CBS.log file that is generated after the installation of the April monthly update (KB5036922) x86 fails?
The latest Quality + Security from May somehow triggered leftovers of unused non-working drivers. I was stuck on a BSOD during the update process until I booted on Safe Mode twice to revert the update and delete the faulty files. After that, the update installed successfully. The drivers were related to a failed firmware update for an Intel LAN controller, which I didn't bothered a second attempt after an instant BSOD on the first try.
Could someone help me with a possible solution to my problem with the April update that I mentioned above (KB5036922) ?
Try disabling any & all security software before running update. Also any other running program not needed to update with. Do you have the latest SSU installed from Feb 2024? (Servicing Stack Update for Windows Embedded Standard 7 for x86-based Systems (KB5034865)). Without getting into the Woody site or your ESU setup or bypass setup this is the best I can do. Did you do a history check of your updates to see if the KB5036922 (32 Bits)is already installed? Real mystery is why May update was flawless & April update failed. Good luck.
Hello Thank you very much for your response and for trying to help me. The KB5034865 update is already installed. I get that message when trying to install it manually by downloading it from the Microsoft Update Catalog site. I still can't install the April update KB5036922. 'Errors' appears in the update history. I would appreciate your help and if you want you could share the cbs.log file I just need to know how I could share that file with you.
I am at my limit of helpful suggestions. You need the help of someone with much more knowledge & experience. I suggest you go back up this page to @Carlos Detweiller & click on his icon or name & then click on start a conversation. Another would be @abbodi1406 as they both are experienced & extremely knowledgeable in all things Win 7. They are responsible for our ESU access. Sorry. Good luck.
Hello. Yesterday I left the PC on all night since it found two updates. I applied all the solutions proposed here in the messages and in the early morning I saw that Windows restarted with the message 'Error in configuration and installation of updates. Reverting the changes. Do not turn off the computer' and then there were errors in the Windows Update update history. I have screenshot of it and CBS.log file, just want to know how and where to share this. I've already exhausted all the possibilities like you. I clarify that this computer is not used with the Internet other than to update Windows and the AV in the Windows 7 partition. I keep Win 7 because I use old software occasionally. When I need to download or work in online mode, I use the partition that has Linux installed (Manjaro xfce x64). Thanks
