2024-12 KB5048676 Microsoft writes, Fixed: A web browser, such as the Supremium web browser, may crash or not start after installing the November 12, 2024 update KB5046705 for Windows. Apparently it's already been fixed.
Very weird indeed that they are just mentionning a modded browser and not even their own Edge browser or FF ESR 115 which is still officially supported... They even made the typo of calling it "Supremium". Guess it's time for the Xmas holidays to come along and get some much needed rest...
All seems well with the December update. I still have the November update hidden so only the new December one appeared today. Installed fine, with reset during install. Opera and Firefox are working fine, Haven't noticed any problems with anything at all. I'll leave the November one hidden and continue as normal from here. Once again thanks to everyone involved in making this possible!
Moin @ All! My December 2024 ESUpdate experience for Windows 7 Pro / Enterprise SP1 x64 systems: "Licensing method": KB4528069 & "new" BypassESU-v13f "Installing method": Manual download and installation via Microsoft®Update-Catalog KB5046705 (Security Only Quality Update for Windows Server 2008 R2) -> November (!) update succesfully installed KB5048676 (Security Only Quality Update for Windows Server 2008 R2) -> succesfully installed and currently no issues recognizable in interaction with Firefox 115.17.0esr (64-Bit). Microsoft therefore appears to have successfully fixed its faulty security updates from November. The following additional update was offered by the Microsoft servers via the Windows Update Search and was also successfully installed: Security Intelligence-Update for Microsoft Security Essentials. @ abbodi1406: Great job & thx for your support! Edit: The latest version of Firefox, 115.18.0esr (64-bit), also works without any problems.
Can confirm that KB5048695 works for me. Firefox 115.18 ESR, Supermium, Discord, Steam, Adobe Acrobat X all work great.
Just to echo the other posters, Dec Update KB5048695 (MD5: 237EEB6C090E173C63E8355080A618A1 , SHA-256: CCD0F7C96C82EE72B193CB8C83D885B0B3FBC3570194CB2096192AD9ABE2892A ) is working fine for me as well on all of my commonly used programs including Firefox ESR 115.18.0esr.
I just installed the December 2024 KB5048695 Security Monthly Quality Rollup. Internet Explorer 11.0.355 and Mozilla Firefox ESR 115.18.0 and Adobe Acrobat Reader 2024.005.20320 all appear to be working fine.
Hi all ! confirmed : with KB5048695 december update on Win7 / Win2008R2 all is working back for browsers, discord, etc. nice gift for christmas !
Hi there!! Me too. KB5048695 working beautifully on my Windows 7 Ultimate / Win2008R2 x64 and Firefox 115.18 ESR ...no problemo baby.
KB5048676 installed on my Win7 Pro (x64) and no problems. (I had removed the problematic update immediately in November. In my case it crashed my Firefox browser about 1 in 3 sites visited.) Now with December's update everything working fine (Firefox 115.18.0esr (x64)
With Dec rollup KB5048695 is the render Engine error fixed (the render engine was reason for the brownser crashes with KB5046687/KB5046705 ) all works fine now,
Theory after unhidden November update after install December and rescan Windows Update, you shouldn't see as to Install earlier update. Or Windows Update make crazy. I did must check how be to me.
Considering the browser issue is fixed. Does this mean it is ok to install KB5046705 (Nov Security Only) followed by KB5048676 (Dec Security Only)? I know Nov was "Miscellaneous security improvements" but I rather have them than not.
I had the November update hidden and then installed the new December update. Going back to the hidden updates page the November update is no longer there. So presumably everything it patched has been included in the December update and now the November update is no longer needed or valid. If I re-scan for new updates the November one doesn't appear and it's not in the hidden list, so I conclude that it's no longer needed.
Depending on what update, Security-only, or Monthly Rollup. The Safety KB5048695 Monthly already includes the November update. I'm installing KB5048676 Security-only and went phased November, December and everything works.
Security-only is supposed to be non-cumulative on update level, so, you might miss out on some November fixes by not installing it. Usually, even Security-only is at least partly cumulative on package level. Installing the November and December SecOnly packages should be non-critical, as December overrides the November render engine changes. The normal package OTOH is fully cumulative on update level and you don't need to reinstall November LCU as the December LCU fully supersedes it.
in which Microsoft has delivered on their goods with the recent December 2024 updates for Win7 and Server 2008 R2 KB5048695 rollup replaces KB5046687 for Win7 / Server 2008 R2 so download & install KB5048695. for those who install security-only updates, install KB5048676 on top of KB5046705
Microsoft: you are using Security-only updates, you will also need to install all previous Security-only updates and the latest cumulative update for Internet Explorer (KB5046630). KB5048695 This Monthly Rollup cumulative security update contains improvements that are part of update KB5046687(released November 12, 2024).
