You should install the latest patches manually:
    https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/windows-7-hotfix-repository.19461/page-561
    • 2025-01 Servicing Stack Update for Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB5050681)
    • 2025-02 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB5052016)
If you are delayed and missing more updates, please check:
    forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/windows-7-fresh-install-in-2025-how-bring-it-to-the-last-current-update.88996/#post-1870782

    My two cents.

Thank you. Sorry to ask. Do I need to pay for these methods?

Apologies if this has been discussed before. I have tried to find the answers by reading the forum, but this has become very difficult for me due to the failing eye sight.

Since November last year, WU is no longer automatically offering me important security updates for my Windows 7 (Professional SP 1 64 bit) and Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8. It only automatically installs the Recommended Windows updates.

In January this year, I installed the latest BypassESU version 13f.7z, but it didn't fix the problem.

I then manually downloaded and installed Security Updates for Windows KB5050681 & KB5050049, as well as Security Update for NET Framework KB5049628 & Update for .NET Framework KB5049619, although some of these updates were installed not in the 'prescribed' order.

In February, I again manually downloaded and installed Security Update for Windows KB5052016.

I have attached screenshots showing the latest updates installed on my system.

Am I missing any important updates?

How can I have WU to continue automatically installing important security updates for Windows 7 and .NET Framework as it did before? Or is this no longer possible?

    I really appreciate your help.

Did you choose "Windows Server 2008 R2 category" for WU ESU Patcher?

Well, Microsoft has made the decision to drop support for WIndows 11 for older PCs (not that I want to use it ever as I consider the OS rubbish). Each of us will have to deal with that in his/her own way.

WineVDM as its author says is used for running 16 bit Windows (Windows 3.0 / 3.1 and others) applications in 64 bit Windows such as Windows 10 and 11. My understanding is that this software enables you to do what it says without needing to use and run a virtual machine of, say, Windows 98 or Windows XP.

Personally if I still need to run these softwares then I will just launch a virtual machine (Windows XP / Windows 7 32 bit / Windows 10 32 bit) and run them in there. I have numerous virtual machines built with VMware Workstation / VMware Fusion over the years for this purpose.

    Thank you so much!

I don't think I had configured the ESU Patcher at all.

Now I have done so for Windows Server 2008 R2. And to check if automatic updates are working, I uninstalled Security Update for Windows KB5052016, Security Update for NET Framework KB5049628 & Update for .NET Framework KB5049619 that I installed previously.

WU found and automatically installed KB5052016. It did not, however, install or offered to install KB5049628 and KB5049619 .NET Framework updates. Instead, it installed a whole bunch of earlier .NET Framework 4.8 Security Updates for Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 - some released five years ago, and the latest from October 2024. All .NET Framework 4.8 Security Updates for Windows 7 that were installed on my system over the years seemed to have disappeared? (all the .NET Framework updates appear to be installed on the same date - 27/2/25; I have attached a screenshot). Were they just replaced with the Windows Server 2008 updates?

Searching for available updates doesn't bring up the missing KB5049619 & KB5049628 updates, so I have again installed them manually.

Is this to be expected? Will I have to manually download and install .NET Framework security updates for Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1?

WU does not offer updates for specific .NET version alone since 2016, you always get a Rollup wrapper for all

i'm not sure why WU re-offered and installed some old updates, as they are the same updates wheither Win7 or Server

I am sorry if I misunderstand, but isn't KB5049619 a Rollup? Microsoft calls this update a "Security and Quality Rollup" and says it's supposed to be downloaded and installed automatically for ESU customers.

That's why I am wondering why KB5049619 wasn't installed automatically after I configured the ESU Patcher for Windows Server 2008 R2. What am I missing?

Yes, after a restart. Windows Server 2008 R2 Monthly Rollup KB5052016 installed automatically.

Don't know if it means anything, but after downloading and installing KB5049619 manually, it still doesn't show up in the history of updates, but it is on the list of installed updates.

History only shows updates installed from WU, or from msu file

Same situation I have with 2 win7 Pro.
Unfortunately and apparently BypassESU-v13f is not more able to find any updates for specific .NET version, even if it is correctly configured.
It occurs in the last few months.
Every updates (e.g. KB5049619) regarding .NET Framework has to be installed manually using dotNetFx4_ESU_Installer.
    Strange, but true.
