I hear ya - is helpful thanks - Jan. glitch fix on way, plus tip on the use of ESU bypass since following recently. I wasn't sure on MS catalog kb provision either but imagine a source list/link to post later.
Today was my first update for Microsoft Project 2016 & Microsoft Word 2016 which the version tool works great. My last update without the tool was on January 14, 2020
Hi everyone, Something i noticed about last version of bypass project is that it does not affect WU anymore, so it's good thing, people won't have to uninstall the project and install it agin when needed so it's a great job from the author of the tool.
Would be even better if new version of bypass can auto-download ESU updates from WU, to avoid manual patching. Keeping fingers crossed for that one!
Well, accordingly to what I've read from past posts in this thread, that is what the developers are eventually trying to work towards.
Getting ESU updates from Windows Updates can be done in 3 methods, non of them is problem-free 1) Dummy WSUS proxy scan will be slower, needs rebuilding DataStore.edb from scratch, not guaranteed to work 2) Patched wuaueng.dll with custom slc.dll (different one than the bypass) the files must be checked for each new version, not to mention that Simplix or other cpu patchers already use modified wuaueng2.dll this is the safest option 3) Replacing original slc.dll with modified one, which intercept and change ESU policies checks, and forward all other functions to renamed original slc.dll aside from SFC error, if WAT update KB971033 is installed and active, it will flag the file as tampered and show nag screen (it doesn't affect activation though) this is the most guaranteed option, and it doesn't need separate bypass, but the least safe all methods works only for ESU-supported editions Home/Starter and other non-supported Server editions are exempted so, installing ESU updates manually is the only problem-free methods

I never got the wallpaper fix in my WU so I just switched center because my wallpaper makes my monitor's native resolution so it didn't matter.
