Can anyone confirm if this method to block singular windows updates actually works?

If we connect to a wifi network and set the network as metered then windows won't download updates as long as we're connected to said wifi. We can check for updates and windows will show a list of available ones but won't download. We then download the WU show/hide tool and run it. My question: Will it pull those visible updates and can we hide the ones we want? If we then connect to an Ethernet connection, will WU install all the updates that were checked by it or will the updates blocked via show/hide tool actually take effect and WU downloads only the unblocked ones?I don't want to try it on my father's laptop ( w10 single language: So no way to stop updates unless on a metered connection) because a faulty update ( i don't know which one because there were a bunch of them including drivers) caused Windows startup failure and I had to clean install.
