Hi liliactr, I don't really need one. Just swapping the 'oembios' files (a two minute job) works for me. (see posts on page 29) I 'tested' Yen's mod on a server I use for testing. Because he asked for feedback. I don't blame you. Yen is one of the experts when it comes to BIOS modding. Yes I do. #1. Because he took the time to welcome me back. #2. Yen, along with FreeStyler, Sebus, Urie, Ancestor(v), Suicide Solution and others have helped, advised and taught me alot. For which I am thankful.
Signed up just to say thank you to everyone that worked on this. Has saved me a lot of problems. Thanks people. Discovered these forums through this thread and am now visiting every day.
Hi all, SP1 for Win2k8R2 is finally available. Can someone mod the vmwp file for us ? The version is 6.1.7601.17514 dated February 21 2011 9:58:29 AM Thanks in advance.
I have but it's not the same release date (even if it's the same version) and this one was perhaps not the same as the official version (in regard to the date)... So I bothered reading and asking because I'm not entirely sure this is the latest one.
I'm guessing the date is either when you downloaded or when it was installed. It's way too recent to be the release date. In either case, 6.1.7601.17514 is the same on both so it is the right one.
Hello Yen and Professionals! Can you please repeat your SLIC 2.1 insertion to the german version of the vmwp.exe v6.1.7601.17514 (R2 witch SP1)? I uploaded the original file for you at RapidShare: rapidshare.com/files/451629799/vmwpGerV6.1.7601.17514Unmodded.rar (Sorry, but I can't post Links yet, so plz copy/paste.) Thanks for your work and answer! Of course I will test and give you report! Greetings Phiber
Thanks sebus! But the link you postet is located on your harddrive. I tried it by myself and followed your post #224. I selected offset 25B45C to 28E2DF (length was 32E84 how exspected) and owerwrote this with the content of the rom file (1bR2_mod-Dell-S20.rom - length 32E84). As result, Hyper-V keeps at start window. Maybe the position to overwrite is at another place? I would like to try your mod first and report... Correction: I think I've done it! The offsets are: start: 25B65C end: 28E4DF After copy-pasting the rom content in this area the Systems are booting and slic dump toolkit detects the SLIC2.1!! I think activation will work now. Thanks to your advice and help!!! Greetings Phiber
Hello everyone, I have been lurking here for many months, and joined last year so I could search the forums. This is a great site and has been invaluable to me. I am posting now because I am struggling to get working the mod described in this thread. I have a Dell Optiplex 745, running Hyper-V Server (stand-alone) 2008 R2 SP1. I got there by installing from the Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 DVD-ROM which you download from Microsoft for free, then installing SP1 RC, then uninstalling SP1 RC, and then installing the official SP1. If it matters, my two guests are Windows Server 2003 SP2--already activated, and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1(RC). About the mod attempt: When I replaced the existing vmwp.exe with the one provided by link in post #313, my Hyper-V guests would not start--a nondescript error message appeared. When I replaced the modded version with the original, I also couldn't get the guests to start. I had to uninstall and reinstall SP1 to get them working. The replacement process I took was (from RDP, logged in as [DOMAIN]\Administrator): 1) cd \Windows\System32 3) copy vmwp.exe vmwp.bak1 4) takeown /f C:\Windows\System32\vmwp.exe 5) cacls C:\Windows\System32\vmwp.exe /G "[DOMAIN]\Administrator":F 6) Y: <-- where the local copy of the modded file was 7) copy vmwp.exe c:\Windows\System32\vmwp.exe 8) confirm overwrite. Following these operations, the Hyper-V guests would not start as described above. I've now got a drive snapshot of the Hyper-V Server's system disk and I'm ready to have another go, but any thoughts on what I am missing? Is this not the mod for my installation, or my system? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Greetings, LSDave
System in unrelated, as to mod, it was done to vmwp.exe from Hyper-V role of Server 2008 R2 I really do not know if there is any difference if it is ONLY Hyper-V server Best is if you upload the .exe somewhere, so it can be compared sebus
Thanks for your reply Sebus. Should I upload to the "mod-request" forum, or in this thread, or somewhere else? Please advise. Also, I assume you want uploaded the vmwp.exe that's installed by Microsoft after SP1 install, correct? Thanks for your help. Greetings, LSDave
If you want - just upload it here as I did. In my experience, you will be quickly helped! But you could do the mod by yourself too. With sebus manual its REALLY easy. (sebus is GREAT) Decide yourself or do both. Greetings Phiber
In my experiance an already activated VM (Activated via Microsoft) will not start with these modded vmwp.exe bios files. You need to deactivate it then reactivate once the new vmwp file is installed.
@Omnishlash That's definitely incorrect! If it would be as you describe, then after flashing SLIC BIOS over nonSLIC BIOS with activated Windows would show the same effect. And we know - it doesn't! If you use the right vmwp.exe for your System - it WILL boot! BTW: The freeze in case of a wrong or corrupted vmwp.exe would occur while VM-POST and not while booting. Greetings Phiber
I had the same experience: after installing the modded vmwp.exe, already installed VMs would not start.
@troels Interesting... And after reinstall/repair Guest-OS it did? Maybe you can PM me your original and modded wmwp.exe to analyse. Greetings Phiber
