markmadras This worked for me on several cases: On the XP machine, Network Connections folder, menu, there is a wizard, that when run it, it asks for computer name, workgroup name, etc. Although you fill in the same values you already have, this wizard corrects something that enables proper file sharing. (sorry I can't remember the menu name because I don't have an XP box right now).
About the reg key, don't know if that will help LLTD in xp: I guess it's running when it's in the Network Connection properties.
It did, problem solved. Tried the other ideas and then set the registry key value from 1 to 0 and I was in to all the shared files on the Win 7. I had a look on my Windows XP Home PC and that key appears to be set by default to 0. I am now wondering what could have changed it, or who?
Glad you solved it. Checked registry in Windows 7 and 2008 R2 The key is set to 0, so is default I guess
Yup, that key had somehow got changed, by who or what I may never know. Just set up a printer share and it went without a hitch.
I also have a problem with my Windows XP Home SP3 and Windows 7 Home Network, both pc's are on the same Workgroup. I can see the Windows 7 folders from my XP machine but can't access them and I can't see the XP machine on the Windows 7 PC. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
"This problem occurs if the Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder component is not installed on the Windows XP-based computer." also remove from homegroup and set in the 7 . in the advanced sharing options.... 48 bit encryption not 128. also check date and time on all comps.
