Heres the dillema... I have a dell venue 8 pro that I put windows 7 ultimate on. I then upgraded to windows 10 pro and got free OS and activation. I now would like to CLEAN install the new build using media creation tool but since the preintallation has both home and pro on it now it detects the original oem home key. (assuming the bios) i no longer have the option to pick which windows version I need to install. The installer simply bypasses the index sceen and chooses to imstall windows 10 home without my consent. ive used the same usb stick in non oem machines and the installion media lets me select which version home\pro i want. so how can i go about fixing this? is this a mistake on microsofts part?
Download and bootup with a pro only iso, delete all partitions, install to the unallocated partition.
If you don't find one, get esd- delete index 5 (home edition) in esd with wimlib (swith delete) = home in index 4 to index 5 rename multi to pro in name esd file- create iso with esd-decrypter
Ei.cfg is no longer supported or even present in windows 10 install media. I will try to manaully add the file with my predetermined settings and let you know if it works.
It uses the bios key (Thanks to abbodi1406 to clearifying it). If you would install another version you won't get a legit activation (at least that should be logical). With a clean install EI.cfg still does the trick if you want one specific version to be installed but it won't get genuinly activated.
Yes!!! Was just logging in to say it worked for me to! I simply made a file with notepad with the text below and saved it as ei.cfg! Then took the file and put it into both sources folder. [EditionID] Pro [Channel] Retail
