Booting from this cd was the only way that activation has worked for me on this computer. I simply ran DAZ's Windows 7 Loader to insert the DELL OEM SLIC and Ultimate key and as long as I boot from this cd I am activated! Hazar, Daz, that Windows Developer's Bootmgr mod, none of them could get this weird bios to boot to an activated Windows 7. Sure, booting from a cd is an extra step but since Windows 7 also messes with how things boot I've also needed to use SuperGrub Cd to boot into Linux on my 2nd hard drive. EasyBCD wouldn't boot Linux with Grub on my Linux partition, just booting Windows 7, and Grub in the mbr could only boot into Linux. So, Cd-slic-ldr boots Windows and SuperGrub (selecting the Boot Linux indirectly choice from the Help, Linux, section) boots Linux. Guess I'm a cd booter for now! If EasyBCD 2.0 Beta gets an update that'll actually find Linux for me then I'll be able to just leave Cd-slic-ldr in without swapping cd's but this'll do for now.
Hmmmm... Will it work if booted from iso on Grub 2. Just letting you know guys that grub 2 can boot iso disk image files... Someone should try that
Sorry for bringin back such old thread (still, it worked fine on some machines that nothing else worked) Question: Does anybody know how to make it floppy image based? Thanks sebus
Yes it can work from floppy, hexedit (grldr from above USBLDR) during the whole Carling Cup final makes the attatched floppy image which boots fine in Parallels Desktop 4 for Windows & shows correct Dell SLIC 2.1 Also tested in Parallels Desktop 5/6 for Mac, SLIC shows fine & Win 7 activates fine, and it passed the Genuine as well. But does not work on Parallels 7 on Lion 10.7.4 (use Daz Loader 2.6.1 instead) Just for fun tried to boot guest in Hyper-V R2 & only get blinking cursor Works fine in Vmware Workstation 7.xx AND Virtualbox 3.x.x sebus
Not a problem, I am happy I have a working solution for ANY consumer virtual system (but Hyper-V, sadly) sebus
? This solution has been available for ages, for example I have been using this CD-SLIC-LDR on VirtualPC, Virtual Box even Hyper-V for a very long time without issues... why should you wan't to use a floppy image instead?
Because I am unlikely to need the floppy for anything else at all in VM And also because there was NO floppy image available till now sebus
