The file has been removed from my server. I think no one needs it anymore.

Could your method be used to port the windows 7 Tablet Input Panel to Windows 8 RTM?

Could your method be used to port the windows 7 Tablet Input Panel to Windows 8 RTM? I'd love to know how you figured this out. The Windows 8 TIP stinks for pen users.

You Turned This Complete Moron into a Hex Editor User!

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I was desperate to make my Windows 7 Freecell work on my new Windows 8.1 machine (running Windows Classic Shell). I used the patch Tito wrote based on -it turns out- your above code. Long story short, his patch didn't work. Freecell just wouldn't run at all, not even any error codes. So I fished back on Tito's link (thank God he included it) to this message. I thought, "What have I got to lose?" So I downloaded this free hex editor (after I did some 'net research to find out what the heck a hex editor is), and fired it up on freecell.exe (yikes!). It found the string, but wouldn't let me change it, saying the file was either in use or read only. I changed the file properties to be wide open permissions-wise and tried again. Still no editing allowed. So I copied the file, renamed it, opened all the permissions, and voila! It let me change the string. I saved the file and renamed it back to its original name. Of course, all along the way I had to keep assuring my computer that it had the administrator's permission to make these changes.

So, with trepidation, I double-clicked freecell.exe and GOT MY GAME BACK. Wahoooo!

Thank you woot332 and Tito for making this information available to me. I now don't feel so bummed that my old Windows 7 laptop is nearly dead and I've been forced to replace it with a new Windows 8.1 machine with no games.

P.S. To answer your question "Why u want the windows 7 version?," I don't know about the other games, but Freecell plays differently than previous versions and WAY differently than the "free" Windows game pack Microsoft offers as a substitute on their website. I had already transferred a Windows XP version of Freecell onto my Windows 8.1 machine. It ran fine with no hurdles, but I missed having some of the features of the later one I'd been playing on my dying Windows 7 laptop. For instance, I play timed games (my own nuance), so I'm in a hurry and don't want to have to make extra moves to accomplish what the newer version does in a single move. When moving a stack of cards to an empty space, Freecell XP will only move a limited number, asking you first in a pop-up message if you want to move the stack. Then you have to go back and move the rest of the stack to the same spot. In Freecell 7, you just drag the whole stack over; the application is smart enough to know they'll all fit. Also, my speed contest is to win a certain number of games in a certain amount of time. To see where I am on how many games I've won in a row, in Freecell XP I have to stop and click on Game>Statistics... In Freecell 7, the current score is given on the "Congratulations, you won the game!" message that pops up at the end the game. This is key to PACING myself. There are other things, but I just wanted to list a couple so you'd understand why this was so important to me, and probably a lot of other people.

windows version check patch can't find signature

I opened up a few of the games .exe files in a hex editor and could not find the string of characters in any of them. I couldn't even find a part of it such as 7D FC 01 0F 94 C0. However I did check that I could find some multi-byte strings which I could see existed - just to reassure myself that I was using the search tool correctly.

    I wonder if I have the right files. For example the FreeCell.exe file is reported as 830Kb, does this look right to people who have been successful or have I somehow got different files? Starts with: 4D 5A 90 00 03 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 4D 5A 90 00 03 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 FF FF 00 00 B8 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 40 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 .......

msgames_win8_x64.msi has Chess Titans - go with x32 if you have a 32 bit OS. Google it and choose a site of your choice. I have installed this on Win 8, 8.1, 8.1.1

I am a lover of Chess game and I am not so good at it though. The Windows 8 or 8.1 is a great platform for Chess game, most especially, the 3D's on touch-screen. Where you can use your finger to drag the pieces into appropriate places than using mouse which is a little drudgery and boring.
