But to be clear, I did the clean installation not using this build i used the official one that's released on the windows website of which an iso was created using the official windows 10 media tool. So did you do the same and it worked? or did you just re-use the same build published here?
I started to slur my messages to him because i was repeating myself but to be clear I did it exactly in this order, I have windows 8.1 pro geniune, I upgrade dto Win 10 Pro via the 10240 build poste don this forum, it was activated... I wanted to then do a clean install so created a bootable usb using the windows 10 official media tool fro the microsoft website, formatted and reinstalled windows 10..... boom! no activation so i did the procedure in said order.
I could of done that but I am a bit OCD, I wanted to do a clean installation form the windows official media tool creator for windows 10 just so I know in my mind its 100% and plus I like to format myself and do a fresh installation from boot, its just the way I have always done it and should still be able to.
I didnt actually upgrade my hard drive, i just said that to throw a scenario into play to see what we would say.
I actually didnt upgarde the SSD lol I was getting nowhere with him so thought i would change things up and throw a scenario into him to see what he would say i.e "In that case here is your product key" OR "Install win 8 again and upgarde" I was just wanting to try and see if he was in the wrong and see if I can gert my converted win 8 to win 10 key (If it exists)
I think the issue is I used the Official ISO from the Windows 10 Media Toolkit rather than the build on the rumored 10240 build on the forum, Is there a way for me to confirm this? I could be wrong but when I installed the build on this forum, Cortana never worked but with the one released today from Microsoft website via the Media Toolkit , everything worked perfectly apart from the activation of course which leads me to believe its because the build is not the final/latest one?
When I did the same almost I was told "Keep the Generic Key for your Install Version -and if ask for key insert the Generic Key for Installation, on last reboot you will be AutoActivated. and I was Activated
I also took note of the product key of my windows 10 pro and tried to enter it but it doesnt accept it. I honestly think the build 10240 on this forum was not the final and thats whats causing me the issue.
In accordance with MS moderators very few people are getting activated via the servers due to congestion. It's possible when the poster reinstalled it needed to check the activation and just couldn't. Even many that upgraded through the standard upgrade process are not activated. Nobody gets activated today, need to wait 24-48h.
If that is true, it is ridiculous that in this day and age they cant handle a simple information request I mean its not like its a game and we are hammering their servers with heavy information. I am seriously doubting the build however on the forum, I am just dreading reinstalling win 8 and waiting for all the windows updates to install because they take FOREVER!
I had a similar issue with my notebook. Did the upgrade, then cleaned installed. It failed to activate, and said the key was blocked. I clicked on the "Check Store"(or what ever it's called) button, and it activated. I then went on to test "slmgr.vbs -upk" (this will remove the key you have installed) on my desktop to see if the same "check store" activation method would work with no key at all. It reinstalled the key, and activated.
What cepheid46e2 said, i just updated from w7(daz) to w10, and even though I did the upgrade and not the fresh install, it wouldn't activate right away. It just kept telling me to connect to the internet. Only after waiting several hours and pressing the activate button maybe 30 times(sorry for the ddos on the servers ms) did the activation go through a few minutes ago. I'm pretty sure the servers are just overloaded right now.
Then why is it that on 3 pcs I upgraded from windows 7 and 8 to the windows 10 build 10240 that Cortana didn't work and had quite a few other bugs? i know this doesn't confirm my point but it just seemed strange to me that the version windows released today works completely fine i.e cortana works and bugs away, just makes me have some suspicions thats all.
