I upgraded from 8.1 pro to 10 pro with the media creation tool to my surprise when I was done my windows 10 was not activated so I called micro they said give it 48 hours by the way my key was legit but instead I found a fix I do not take credit for this at all nor do I take the blaim for it not working lol here it is go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download change temporarily the folder name Download to _Download, do the activation and after acceptance change again the folder name from _Download to Download. So you do not delete any file.
i think Microsoft closed the activation Process for fresh installation for a while !! Does your windows activation windows says " can't activate windows now " or " can't activate windows with this product key "
Interestingly my 10240 pkeyconfig fails to read the key . Must try anybody with an up-to-date Win 10.
This is one of the perk being a Genuine customer. A pirate activates windows in seconds and he can do it unlimited times. On the contrary a genuine customer is tortured by various means. Why M$ introduced this horrible upgrade path and even they didn't pushed a finished image. So any genuine customer have to first update their windows 8.1 then they have to download windows 10 and then apply hot fix. Then he have to make a back up disc if he want to do fresh install(Miss leading customers). Tell me a reason why should people go genuine
first I upgraded to W10 from licenced 8.1, it took a while to activate(had hot time with activate now button) but it was successfull after some time. Then made a clean install and successfully activated
I have never had to hit any button, after each install it's automaticly activated, home or pro (i used win7 ulti uefi windslic acer for upgrading to 10 pro and win7 premium with daz for 10 home)
I got the same problem to... My problem cause twice clean install windows 10 Pro. but, afterall I solved my problem with: 1. got to this website: https:// account.microsoft.com/ devices 2. login and delete your previous device. 3. go to: https:// account.microsoft.com/ devices/store 4. delete previous device 5. open command prompt with admin. 6. type: slmgr.vbs -rearm 7. restart PC. 8. wait 5 - 15 minute until your device sync with microsoft server. This solution only apply If your microsoft account already reserve windows 10 upgrade. this my log: 2015-07-30 06:38:38, Info Entering RjvFactoryImageAvailable 2015-07-30 06:38:38, Info No OEM image specified 2015-07-30 06:38:38, Info ESD not registered: Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\WebSetup [ImageLocation] is not set 2015-07-30 06:38:38, Info Did not find a factory reset image 2015-07-30 06:38:38, Info Returning TRUE from RjvFactoryImageAvailable
This is how I understand it so far... If you do this, it will work: 1) Install qualifying upgrade OS (Win7/8) 2) Activate qualifying upgrade OS (Win7/8) 3) Upgrade to Windows10, which self activates during upgrade This procedure places you on Microsoft's servers which allows you to clean install from that point forward If you do this, it won't: 1) Install qualifying upgrade OS 2) Forget or otherwise decide not to activate qualifying OS install before upgrading to Win10 3) Install Win10 upgrade, which may or may not activate If the latter scenario activates, then should you decide on a fresh install afterwards, it will not be possible to activate because nothing has been written for your box on Microsoft's activation servers... I suspect that lots of people may be simply forgetting to activate their Win7/8 upgrade OS before they upgrade to Win10, which may be why they cannot activate their clean install after their upgrade procedure.
Another thing people have to do, I found this out the hard way, I just changed RAM and lost activation, backup copies no activation either, I went back, had a backup of 8.1 for 28th of Jul, put it on, started update process again, updated, clean installed added programs and ran sfc, man was I surprised when it came back with all sorts of errors, spent 2 days trying to fix it, could not, so put backup of 8.1 back on and tried to figure out what I had done wrong, then it hit me, I had not been to windows updates on 8.1, I went there, 21 updates, got them, upgraded, clean installed, all is well.
