MS posted this back on the preview 10565 that new builds will accept old key which means a roll to consumers eventually. Activation and selecting Change Product Key. If you do a clean install of Windows 10 by booting off the media, you can also enter the product key from prior Windows versions on qualifying devices during setup.
Build 10565 have two product key config: pkeyconfig.xrm-ms & pkeyconfig-downlevel.xrm-ms pkeyconfig.xrm-ms support Win 8 RTM OEM: DM keys pkeyconfig-downlevel.xrm-ms support: Win 8.1 RTM Retail/OEM/MAK Windows 7 Retail / OEM: COA / OEM: NONSLP / MAK al least theoretically by reading the two pkeyconfig
It is only possible if MS roll out new ISO integrated with fall updates but till now there is no confirmed news that MS is gonna release a new ISO. and in absence of new ISO we have to use build 10240 for clean installation of windows 10 which is not accepting 7/8/8.1 keys.
This procedure is for Tech Savvy people and not for general people who only knows to use key at the time of installation when windows in between shows a screen for inserting your CD Keys.
They did it for Windows 8.1, nothing will keep them from doing it for Windows 10 new ISOs are inevitable
Rumor is all over Twitter that MSFT has signed off on th2 for PC. Can anyone here check their sources to see if it is true ? Come on MDL, show why you are the BEST.
only source which I can check is to see if MSDM has new entries and it doesn't atm though. If there come new isos for Windows 10 with update (which is most likely that these isos will have that part of the name) I will load them for you guys and provide in X-files as usual
Would leaving the insider preview after Threshold 2 being made public cause to downgrade to rls 10240 or switch to Threshold 2 version ?
Allowing the install to download updates while using the old ISO would likely enable the option to use Win7/8.1 keys at install. Failing that, the first windows update cycle after install would enable it.
Wondering if activation id would be the same if I clean install th2 as I have a phone activated ltsb!
