I have tried the bootable cd. it didn't brick the laptop. Laptop boot normally after upgrade. Although it has slic 2.1 inside, it is not a successfull mod, so didn't activate Win7

No I didn't try it yet because I once tried to update the laptop Bios using this method (not this CD) and it went wrong and had to send it to RMA. That's why I asked for the exact steps. I'll try it though, when I have some spare time. Thanks

I tried CD install before I tried Yen's bios on Floppy.
    Flashing worked without bricking laptop.
At that time Daz Loader wasn't around and so I didn't found correct cert.

Haven't tried CD since then with Daz Loader.

Can you activate Win7 with cert and key (lenovo or hp or dell)?

Cert MUST match Bios SLIC entry.
Key has only to be SLP, and don't need to match Cert and SLIC.

With "old" method I didn't found cert for CD version of modded Compal BIOS.
With "new" Daz loader, it should recognize coresponding Cert automatically.

But I stay with Yen's mod, so I won't test it.
All I can say is, CD method doesn't brick Laptop in my case.

The way I got mine to work is to create a Crisis Tool floppy and replace the firmware file with Yen's modded one (make sure the filename is the same).

Basically, you're going to get the Crisis Tool to flash the firmware with the modded firmware instead of the original factory one.

Of course, make sure you have a REAL unmodified Crisis Tool disk in case the modded firmware didn't work. Although, Yen's firmware is good, so if your computer doesn't boot, make sure the firmware didn't get corrupt during the download, and make sure floppy has no bad sectors.

And it's recommended to upgrade Bios prior flashing modded bios.
So if you have 1.13 upgrade to 1.18 then flash modded 1.18

With original crisis tool and bios.wph replaced with modded one (keep name bios.wph) it should allways work.
But crisis tool only works imho with an usb floppy (not stick). Or am wrong (BIOS looks for USB FDD and nothing else!)?

Most bricks appear when not updating bios first or not using additional switch /slp2 while flashing.

I did it: I broke my laptop, lol. I managed to flash my BIOS (IFL90) from original 1.16 to original 1.18. Later I tried to flash to Yen's MOD, but, after flashing it goes to a black screen and that´s all.

As I read, it´s quite normal to get that screen, but later, using the crysis floppy, we can flash again and there it goes.

The problem is that I have no USB floppy. I managed to flash using a USB stick, but it seems that it needs a floppy to flash with the crysis tools. Can anyone confirm if he has managed to use the crysis tool using just a USB stick? Or do I have to buy a USB floppy?

    Thanks

I got my IFL90 flashed with the SLIC 2.1 Lenovo BIOS, but I can't get Windows 7 activated. I've installed the Lenovo cert and tried both Lenovo Windows 7 Ultimate keys, but can't get it to activate. Has anyone successfully activated Win7 without using a loader on this laptop?

I'd try modding the bios with an Asus or some other SLIC, but haven't had much luck in finding information about how to mod these Phoenix bioses. Anyone have links they could share?

Edit: I believe the modded BIOS has a 2.1 SLIC but all the only Lenovo certificates are 2.0. Should this work or do I need a 2.1 cert? Is there a 2.1 Lenovo cert that will work with the F2 Lenovo BIOS that's going around?

Can someone please upload an iso image file with the slic 2.1 bios update in order to flush it from the cd-rom instead of floppy disk. I don't have a floppy and this is the way I used to upgrade to 1.18 after getting the image from he net.

    Thanks for helping
