I have a Compaq Presario CQ-50-139WM and I will be upgrade the processor from a Celeron to a Dual Core. And I'm wondering if I should update the BIOS? The BIOS version on my Laptop is F.24 and the newest version on HP's site is F.65, I've been meaning to do so as I will be also installing Windows 7 on the laptop so I have a few questions.

    1) I've done some research on this site and the BIOS version on HP's site appears to have SLIC 2.1, so does that mean I can create an OEM version of Windows 7, correct (I've done so with XP)?

    2) I've heard that one should not update BIOS from withing Windows OS, as that could cause problems and brick your motherboard. So in other words, how should I update my BIOS?

    3) Should I update my BIOS before I upgrade the CPU and installing Windows 7? Currently my laptop has Vista.

1- yes this bios (sp51485.exe) already have a SLIC 2.1 (no need of a hack)
2- my grand ma say... blablabla, flash from windows don't worry.
    3- update your bios first.

    note for Windows7 activation:
    1- Flash the bios
2- Check SLIC with slicdump toolkit
    3- Install HP certificate
    4- Proceed to activation

For points 3 and 4 see:
especially Chapter 6. Advanced stuff, F-a. Install a certificate, F-b. Install a key
