LOL, you must understand the way MS consider things: - You could only have the win8.1 ISO's if you have paid for a win8.1(either it's bought from a shop, MSDN/TechNet subscribers, dreamspark, etc) - leaked ISO doesn't count. - If you have a legit win8 key, you couldn't have got a win8.1 ISO (remember, leaked ISO doesn't count), only way you could acquire win8.1 is by upgrade from win8 thru Store.
Gotcha! I am trying to install Windows now but am getting an error when using the key provided. What should I do?
Well crap. I get this error when trying to put in my legit key. Sucks. Can someone link me to the Windows 8.1 w/ update VL version?
As even the VL ISO can be activated with a Retail Key ... it should work. All ISOs offered here are untouched ones (forums rule)
SightUp, please download the iso file at FaiKee thread, then use the glvk I gave to you then activate with legit key. Try this then you come back and feedback. ed- No modified iso files allowed in this forum. It's a sacred rule.
Looks like, if I am reading correctly, Netframework is what he added. Erm, I already installed and am currently installing drivers for the version I downloaded. Is there a problem with that? Should I start over?
WOW!! Did you just actually write that or copy paste that from another post that you wrote to a peep who needed the same explanation? NICE.
I just typed that out now. As most of the regular members know by now, I have a tendency to spontaneously spurt out a lot of text
So basically, when I downloaded the Windows 8.1 ISO back in the day and I installed Windows using a VL, I shot myself in the foot because I can only ever use VL with this key now. Does that pretty much sum it up? In the future, when Windows 9 is released, I will want to use the N version, right?
No, you are confusing things. As I explained, your key is not related to or tied to the type of ISO you use for installation. If you installed from a VL ISO, then you are limited in that you would not be able to add the WMC upgrade later on if you choose to. However, you can always reinstall from a Retail ISO. Your key (if it's a Retail key) is accepted for activation by both ISOs, always. That depends on a lot of things, but mostly on personal preference. I never choose the N version, because my philosophy is that I would rather have the option available of using something, and choose not to use it, as opposed to completely being locked out of an option altogether. Bear in mind that the N-version only exists due to legal reasons: the EU forced Microsoft to make available a version of Windows that does not come with WMP. If it wasn't for this legal ruling, it wouldn't even exist. There is pretty much no reason in practice to ever use the N-version.
