The main mod I want to make is PMPatch. And yes, I will definitely do an SPI dump of the BIOS after I do all of the upgrades.

I don't have MMTool. But if I mod the SPI BIOS dump file with PMPatch and Phoenixtool and flash it with SPI, I won't have to worry about the lock module. Is that correct? Hope that makes sense.

Hi, I'm looking to do the same thing for a Intel server board (s2600cp) that I have; the BIOS (Winbond W25q64BV chip) is toast and I can't get it into recovery mode. Intel doesn't provide any .rom or .hex files, only the capsuled file that's to be used with it's iflash32 utility.

I want to be able to somehow covert the .cap file so I can restore it using a spi flasher. I tried trimming the file down as suggested but wasn't able to get it going.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm trying to do the same, convert a .cap to a binary for SPI write with a programmer. Have a Gateway SX2110G-UW308 that a bios update was required for an SSD to become recognized, long story short, flashed with the latest file, P11-B3, windows indicated all was sucessful and wanted a reboot. Computer never completed a power up again. I did have a successful read prior to the update. But it's in a .CAP Format, writes and now atleast I get power on LED but nothing else. Reading this thread tells me why now. So if i can convert this read.cap to read.bin I may be able to bring this one back.......Any help on this would be much appreciated.:bye1:

Open your BIOS file in UEFITool, press RMB on top item in the tree, which would have Capsule type, select "Extract without header..." and save the result.

Hi CodeRush. I've modded my P8Z77-V LX 2204 BIOS with latest Intel OROM using MMTOOL but get a security verification failed error when I try to flash - I thought by removing the header using UEFITool this would allow me to flash using BUPDATER? I've opened the new headerless .BIN in andyp's phoenixtool 219 and it opens fine, but I've not been brave enough to flash it yet in case I brick my board. Can you advise if this will work? Thank you :)

I'm already on 2204 (the board came with 2203 installed from factory) so I'm assuming I can't flash back to 1404 now? If I could, how would this help? I don't really understand the significance of 1404 not being locked or how it helps with flashing "tweaked" versions - can you explain? Thanks :)
