Hi guys. I created the UEFI USB as xtrange told and I successfully installed and activated using Tito's method. Now I finally have my laptop running a clean and EN-US Windows 8 I do had some problems with Windows Update as had happened to harrismail on Page 5, but I found that there are 3 specific updates causing all the problem, including to people using Windows 8 from retail/regular sources, so it's safe to say there's nothing to do with this Frankenbuild. The three updates causing problems are: KB2770917, KB2756872 and KB2768703. Just opt to not install these 3 updates on the first Windows Update run, and you should have no problem to download and install all other updates, and then install the remaining three one-by-one.
According to BTOR's second method, the easy one, it is a 2 in 1 so I'm wondering if I can easily use the ISO to easily make a clean install of Win 8 Pro on a machine with a preinstalled license. Will that be possible? Will it run into problems as CoreSingleLanguage(updates error, etc.)?
Noop... no problem at all. You can use fresh MSDN media for re-installation. MSDM key is picked up automatically by the installer.
I just wanna inform you people if your CoreSingleLanguage became only plain Win8, there will be an activation discrepancy. Windows will ask soon for activation even if you have activated it already. That is why it is important to replace the branding folder as soon as possible. I wonder if it is because it's a frankenbuild....
what are you talking about? Which frankenbuild on W8 core? If you talk about hacktivation forget it as soon as this came into your mind on MDL
Nope, not about hacktivation at all. If you browse through the pages, one of the problems of using the iso is when the time comes, Win8 Core Single Language becomes simple Win8 only. That is what I speak of. I'm thinking of possible frankenbuild because even though people attempt to make a clean conversion, it might still not be the thing. Point is, truthfully, this isn't an official iso(and there isn't a public release). The fact that it is may(only may) give way to certain problems big or small. P.S. I know about that rule of MDL but that makes me wonder what are the real purposes of KMS activators floating around here? Just curious... No malice.
yes the second method is frankenbuild, and to be clear , Win8 Core Single Language dosen't becomes simple Win8 only , it is only the basebrd.dll.mui getting replaced by the original one.you could at any time check it with slmgr /dlv. but the first method is as good as official release.so if some one wants a official iso can use the method 1.
BTOR, thanks for the guide. Two doubts. From where I get ru-RU-lp.cab and en-US-lp.cab (or other language I want)? I already have a W8 MSDN iso with my language. Can I use Windows 7 AIK dsim to prepare W8's .wim?
Yes they can. WAIK is old, adksetup for Win 8 is newer, use it. I have used them both and I receive more errors when using WAIK. If you check the file versions, adksetup has newer version of the files.
I use WAIK (System Image Manager) to generate a unattend.xml for W7. Don't know if W8 ADK can do this too. I'll keep both.
Hi BTOR.... Thanks for all the help I followed the quoted link but then it takes to Windows Site to download Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows® 8 which is 5GB installer. Am I missing something? PS: I did all this is Windows 7 PC. EDIT: Thanks... read again & understood... Thanks
Nope you're not missing anything... - Run the installer (Elevated Command) and "select" modules you want or need.
Hi... am using Laptop with Windows 7 Pro installed to prepare my boot setup of Windows 8 for Laptop with OEM Core Single Language. I installed Windows 8 DISM and have successfully mounted install.wim of HRM_CSLA_X64FREO_RU-RU_DV5.ISO BUt when using the above command to remove Russian Lang or add Eng Lang am getting below error.. Can someone pls help?
I agree with BTOR add package looks wrong to me. maybe he should try an use the DISM GUI program... works great for newbies... also that error = corrupt packages also that error = Data of this type is not supported." also that error = Data not compatible with. many different indicators...
I did the same (on Windows 7 Ultimate x86) but I did not encounter any errors. - 'converted' the Russian CoreSingleLanguage x64 DVD to Dutch. - ....did you download the correct (x64) language packs? Remember you need the RU AND the en-US packs. You have to rename them as instructed. Remove RU before you add en-US.
