    eVectra

Thanks for the Utility Dobbelina !
I used it on an old HP eVectra which I use as a Torrent box.
I had to include msvcr71.dll into the directory from where I ran the utility, as the install came up with the 'missing dll' error.
Once I did that, the install was painless and XP shows activated.
    Thanks again....

Please excuse my ignorance 911 medic, but although i will at sometime or another go over to win7, will this biosmod allow for xp validation for the time being?

and would i need to reuse oembioschanger as well after updating the bios?

many thanks for your very quick reply,

The HP SLP is for XP.

The HP SLIC is for vista/W7

You need HP OEMBIOS files and my changer. It has any additional tools you will need. It works for XP/WHS/MCE.

The OEMBIOS files you will need are in the stickies.

Any cracked oobe or wga you have used must be fixed first, or OEM activation will be difficult. Either repair install or scanow /SFC will be necessary in this case.

Sorry for the quick question here people, but my floppy drive has long seen its day, and I've half a dozen thumb drives knocking about, I would like to be able to flash using one of these, I have tried various methods of creating a bootable usb drive, from ubcd v 3.3 with ubcd2usb, to Flashboot, and even portable slax, booting as USB-HDD all other boots are turned off, q-flash does not recognize a usb drive, it only ever see's floppys, and none of the others seem to want to boot up, it just goes straight to the HD, tried all of the rear usb2 ports to no avail, also tried USB-Zip but still no go, the thumbs are being partitioned correctly and are all FAT.
Could anyone please help a guy out and give us a clue as to what the prob could be.

could i boot using a hirens or minipe2k cd to get into dos and then use the thumb drive?

    I have d/l HP_Compaq-CD4E1902.rar & HP_Pavilion-06D652A4-Compressed.rar as I was'nt to sure which to use 911, ....

And as far as i can see i use these and your changer for xp, and the bios for vist/7.

does it matter if i change the bios now? would it cause a problem for xp.

I am so sorry for all the questions, your help is very much appreciated.

Probably will not hurt xp. You can also use the cd in the stickies to add the slp to dmi without flash..

Flash with a bootable usb deive, and the FLASHSPI. this is the best way to do it. Instructions are in stickies..

    Hi all,

Just wanted to report back to 911, I finally gave up trying to make a bootable thumb, it seems if you run ubunto from CD and use its built in install to usb, it runs perfectly.... everything I've tried from windows is a no go.

anyway managed to scrounge a floppy from a m8, and created a booting floppy, copied onto it your f11 that you kindly did for me, and i used the q-flash thats built in to the bios, and it all went very well, boots into xp pro with no problems.

then i also tried the oembios.exe from floppy as well in dos, and it said:

    A:\>oembios
Windows XP oembios test v1.0/168/06 ect ect

    F:Hewlett-Packard oembios.cat crc=00A1EECB
    F:Hewlett-Packard oembios.cat crc=06D652A4
    F:Hewlett-Packard oembios.cat crc=3BA155E1
    F:HP & Compaq oembios.cat crc=CD4E1902

These royalty oem install cd's should preactivate (SLP) on your system.
Lines starting with E: are not reliably detected when running under windows.
    Press Enter!

Is this correct, as i have not tried your suggestion of "Any cr**ked oobe or wga you have used must be fixed first, or OEM activation will be difficult. Either repair install or scanow /SFC will be necessary in this case."

All i can say is that the original cd was labelled vrmpvol_en which i believe means volume version. I have never had to use any cr**ks on it.

Thanks for your help and time 911 medic.

    Hi 911,

Just used your proggy, and the uncompressed HP_Compaq-CD4E1902.rar and everything went fine, just one question any idea how i can go about changing the blank logo to a hp or compaq one, you know the one that is supposed to be under "system properties" / general.

p.s. oobe checked out fine, but mgadiag under /licensing still says n/a is that quite normal?
