Ok... So, the half open patch is for the max allowed connection attempts per sec.? But, for windows to manage torrents with 5000 seeds and peers, 255 half open is enough? Didin't knew that...
is there a way to increase or decrease the connection? frok like 255 to 100 or 255 to 500] etc? or is that depent on crack tcpip? if i do not change these values would this effect my internet surfing speeds? because i get good speeds already in utorrent and i dont want to change anything if its not going to do any harm to my browser surfing.
dont change anything. 255 is more than enough. if you're satisfied with your settings, go with it. dont hear anybody unless they can give you reason + proofs. if it's just a sentence, hold your faith.
You still have event id4226 with 255 h/o connections? If not, it`s nothing to worry about. Torrent program grab about 30-70 h/o connections on productivity peak and if it`s allowed to program. 255 is maximum only for Vista, because this limit store in Vista in 1 byte in tcpip.sys file. But I think 255 is a lot more than enough.
Many thanks Half Open... Now i understand the limitation of the TCPip.sys in windows Vista. So, the early versions of the patch you can choose how many connections that you want is not true? I'm still using the v2.2 and set 10000 connections, but the real is 255? cause of the limitation in Windows Vista? Please explain this for me...
Yes, if you used the previous versions and set values higher than 255 the limitation = 255. Don`t run previous versions after patching using 2.4 or 2.5, they can rewrite restore copy.
As @half-open explained, tcpip.sys has only 1 byte reseved for the max.half_open settings which equals to FFh or 255 decimal. h = Hex Value
@wendy123 This means that the max alowed is 255. Once its is set as max at tcpip.sys, you can lower the values thru your p2p client.
alright, as per my other question should i change the values in utorrent if my download speeds are good? i only want to change these values if its going to effect my interent browsing but if its not going to effect my browsing speeds i would like to leave it as it is. EDIT i stopped get the 4226 event in event viewer but im still getting interruptions. When ever utorrent is open website will load as normal for a little while then stop and and i start getting timeouts, is there anything i can do this is starting to get very annoying. i have set the upload speed to 10, max download for now is set to 350, global max connect is set to 100, max number of peer per torrent is set to 30. i have bell as my isp with a so called 7mbps connection as they say. sorry if im not being clear or mis understanding
I'm having a problem. I'm running Vista x64 Ultimate w/SP1 and all latest updates. I downloaded Half-Open 2.5, and when I run it, it gives me an error that my OS is not supported. What gives?
URBi great find, this is what we all have been looking for. I have test and it dose work under x86 vista ultimate. You can set any value you choose to a max of 255 which is the max allowed under vista. But if you set it to 255 you get the driver signature pop up at startup and have to go through the F8 process. BUT BUT i have a work around for that just set the value to 254 and no more driver signature error. No more crack tcpip.sys or any of the automated driver etc. but i wonder all the other tcpip patches out there if there value was changed to 254 then they should also be able to bypass the driver pop at startup
wendy123, you may choose the limit from 1 to 255 and there will be no need of F8 at boot. Maybe you forgot to delete cracktcpip or you used something else before?
on both my laptop and desktop the same thing happned when i set the value to 255, and my laptop dosent even have the crack tcpip installed. for mydesktop i am sure i ran the uninstall.reg file and then delete crack tcpip.sys from the drivesr folder.
