How can I change the order of index/images within install.wim? For eg. I want image index 5 to be index 1
    THANKS

Hello, I downloaded the torrent and have attempted to upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro with Media Center, however the setup program says that this upgrade is not possible and that I have to do a clean install.

Has anyone attempted this? Is there a workaround? I would really like to upgrade instead of do a clean install because I would have to set up my media center recordings again.

See the guide that allows one to make an aio disc with upgrade capability page on 11 of this thread. The original guide in this thread where you could make an aio disc apparently lacked upgrade capability so I suppose that that's also true of the one on the torrent. Despite pilot76103's statement that a double-layer DVD would be necessary to make the upgrade capable disc I was able to make mine with a single-layer DVD. Said 99% full and I was able to burn and use it without any problem.

I tried applying that patch to the torrent iso but it doesn't seem to work.

It's made somewhat differently than the torrent. If you make it from the beginning it should work.

Can this be made without the enterprise isos? All I have are the x86 and x64 professional isos. I don't really care about an AIO, I just want media center added to pro.

You should be able to; however, I initially tried it and ran into some problems, although I'm not sure whether the problems were related to trying to leave out Enterprise. I did make another disc without Enterprise by just skipping steps related to it but that was a different guide. Eventually with the upgrade one I wound up including it hoping that I'd avoid any glitches, and it worked. Again, I would think you could just leave out the steps related to it.

Hi, I am in the US. I ended up obtaining the enterprise isos and made the AIO exactly as described by pilot76103 including the upgrade patch. Burned it to a DVD9 (would not fit on a single layer disc). However, I still get the error message regarding being unable to upgrade from 7 Ultimate to 8 Pro w/ Media Center. I don't get the error trying to go to 8 Pro without Media Center.

I was wondering since you had success if you were running 7 Ultimate or the Pro version?

    Thanks

I guess it's a limitation they put on the in-place upgrade. If you really want to upgrade you could do the one without Media Center and then add it. Whether this will keep your Media Center data intact as it was is anybody's guess (my guess is it won't or they probably would have allowed the straight upgrade). Actually I have not upgraded to Windows 8 and won't be since I don't like the interface--still just running Windows 7 Ultimate. When I said it worked I was talking about making the .iso and the install disc.

I just burn to DVD. I put a checkmark Nero Options overburning and Burn win816in1.iso. Nero said 'Burn not success', but I got DVD ready and running. Thanks mentor, ambidav:worthy:Both x86 and x64 works.

Awesome, I will have to try that. I wonder if there is a reason for MS not allowing the upgrade to Media center. Hopefully it won't break my install. I may have to test it in a virtual machine first.

Ended up just trying it on my HTPC and everything worked great. I was worried that my cable card setup would become fubar or that it would not retain any of my information, but that was not the case. When I started up media center for the first time my settings did not appear to be intact. I selected setup TV tuner and it stated that it found a previous configuration and asked if I'd like to use it. I selected yes and it imported all of my old settings and my tuners seem to work fine. It looks like I can access my previously recorded shows with no problems either and my shows scheduled to record are still there. Haven't tried any of my extenders yet but I am impressed.

It seems likely if you upgraded to pro first then media center you could probably still import the old settings. Still, I can't figure out why Microsoft would have disabled upgrading directly to media center edition. Hopefully when I purchase my key I will be able to activate.
