You read it but you didn't understand the point It's about *OLD* CPUs No doubt. I have a 3d gen on my server and it boots (working fine is a word that doesn't fit well with win11 / server 11) Try a core 2 duo or a turion
You really managed to fit a number of wrong suggestions in a very short sentence. #1 never format a PC, especially in a case like this. Even in a case you need to sell your PC or your HDD. In the former case is too much, in the latter is not enough. #2 Win 10 Iot is supported until the end of the decade, the same is valid for LTSC 2019, server 2019. Even LTSC 2016 is supported one year past 2025. #3 Assuming the user don't want to upgrade to Win10, the 22xxx builds aren't the only options, there are the 23xxx builds, and if he want, he can use Win11 25393 or Server 11 25379 (or any previous build) until the end of time. #4 Spending money to get a new PC for the purpose of running a worse OS than what can run on it would be masochism taken at the next level.
Interesting convo above. I been wandering around the webs and landed on a french forum. All around, every same complain. Setup won't start on ancient machines. Some user tested with a X5450, Turion, hp 6200 pro. All machines failed except the last. Some refered that replaced winload.exe and same bad result. So I been thinking... "Why not "upgrading" my main machine (Q9550, G41/ICH7, 8GB) with one HP 6300 or similar?"... IF I get such machine, I just need to switch the ssd that will come inside of the HP with my ssd and patched setup installation (rufus - remove 4gb/secureboot/tpm restriction) should upgrade the build 25393 to 25941+ just fine... unless MS remembers to go higher and force nukage 9th gen and below.. These repurposed machines also ocme with 8gb ddr3 and I should fill it up upto 16gb. I do have a stock of single dided 4x 4gb ddr3-1333 never used. I was planing of using them with my Asrock G41C-GS R2.0 but the Intel G41 is allergic to these and double sided 4GB ddr3-1333 run much slower at 1000 Mhz. The chipset of the cpu installed on hp 6300 should like single sided 4GB ddr3-1333.
Oops.... I meant HP 8200 ... HP 8300... EDIT: I backed up my PC3 (build 25357, Q6700, 4GB RAM, MSI G41TM-E63) with Norton Ghost. Installed a new fresh copy of Windows 11 build 22621, let install its updates and manually installed KB for 22631 enablement. Guess what.... MS didn't fix that screen freeze with Nvidia GPUs. I purposely let the screen to go standby and when I move the mouse or press a key, the image on the screen is frozen. That's another reason for me to stay away of 226xx. At the time of writing, I am compiling an 23536 ISO. MAYBE MS fixed the problem with Windows that scratches the nvidia driver. When I installed 22621, there was forceware 341.74. Windows Update has 342.01. Nvidia has 342.01 but with a different date. Let's hope... 23536 has this bug fixed. There is a lot of people complaining this very same issue but MS refuses to fix it.
Whatever... I tested the thing in Vbox out of curiosity Bare metal Core gen 3 CPU + Vbox set to PIIX3 =Fail Bare metal Core gen 3 CPU + Vbox set to ICH9 =Boot Bare metal Turion X2 CPU + Vbox set to PIIX3 =Fail Bare metal Turion X2 CPU + Vbox set to ICH9 =Fail So there is a check both on CPU *AND* chipset
Bad news.... rgregeirghniegnekgnerjgnerkgfsrgg you, MS...... Builds 226xx/23xxx are prone to screen freeze... Builds 253xx had no such bug.... Replicate this case thing: System with a nvidia desktop or laptop graphics and build 226xx/23xxx. AMD chips are not affecteed. I don't know what MS changed on builds 25xxx to not freeze with Nvidia chips... No use... I let the screen go standby and move the mouse or press a key... the screen lights up with the image that was there before standby. Just filed an bug report to MS... about this... I think I did it in the past.
I know it's old but it works fine with builds 253xx and windows 10/11... except there is something that Windows 11 has that it makes the screen getting frozen when it goes standby. Yes, I could perhaps source Nvidia Geforce nvs/gtx xxx but prices are not compelling buying second hand yet. Some have an extra connector for power that my PSU doesn't have... (well can't remember but probably not).. The laptop's gfx is also old... 9600M GT, If I put build 23536, 101% I will have the laptop's lcd doing the same thing as the Desktop. Again, I think it's not the gfx card and driver at fault, it's Windows itself doing something when screen wakes up. Months ago, I tried blank screensaver but I don't like this solution cos the backlight is still on. Nor do not want to set the screen always on and press fn+f6 (or press the screen power button) all the time. I will do more testing today (Sep 6th).. Play around with build 23536... It has 2024 timebomb.
