I deactivated / removed my product key as I had refunded it from the Windows Store and will be installing Windows 7 in 2 days

I ran this command in DOS

    slmgr.vbs /upk

but after rebooting Windows was activated again and the key came back

how to get rid of it for good as this will hurt my refund process

I think that you would need to apply the install key in order to overwrite your own key, what version of windows 8.1 did you obtain core or pro?

Pro bro, the Windows 8 Setup box downloaded the latest Windows 8.1 PRO ISO which includes Update 1

Build version before any Windows updates was:

    9600.17031.amd64fre.winblue_gdr.140221-1952
