I want to ditch windows for internet work. I have got the Debian dvd-1 and some live iso's, each with a different shell, Cinnamon, Gnome, KDE, LXDE, XFCE. Just need some advice before i switch. Shells, i tried unity on ubuntu and didnt like it, what shell uses a start menu similar to windows 7. Firewall, UFW or Firestarter to control it? Download Manager, need something similar to IDM. Web Browser. I want something Firefox based, Tor if possible for general browsing, and a portable just for online shopping etc. Is Geyes still availible for Debian? Yep, in Mate for Stretch
I have Debian 9 running on one of my computers that was not very compatible with other distributions. I have been using the Cinnamon desktop. It has been very stable and responsive. I have never used Firestarter, but UFW with the GUFW front end has worked well. For a download manager take a look at uget. Firefox is included with base install.
Now a really dumb question. I take it that .xpi addons work with FF on windows and debian because its a mozilla format not tied to windows?
always my thing against Linux systems was the damn DiretcX nothing else The Free System is full of options at least for me and always will someday believe
