Hi! I opened my laptop Latitude D620 to clean the fan. When I tried to start it again, it didn't recognize my system authentication password (same for more than 5 years!) I've tried passwords from bios-pw.org but didn't work. Any idea on why it stopped working? Suggestions to have it functional again will be more than appreciated! Thanks!

 

try 1 memory at time.
clean with pencil eraser the golden contacts

plug in usb keyboard.. one of the keys might be bad

Marielg - authentication password

The dcnfoagz is the correct Master reset password, did you try both upper case one time then lower case letters the second time? Did you disconnect the battery for the bios when you lifted the palm rest off the bottom casing? Did you make sure the fan was reconnected? Did you use new heat sink compound when you laid the heat sink back on the CPU if you took it off? Did you make sure the ribbon cable for the keyboard and touch pad were reconnected properly? There are a lot of things that you could have pulled loose without knowing and these are the most common things. You say authentication password, is the laptop asking you this when posting or is it asking you this when trying to go into BIOS?

 

Request master reset password, and instruction on which security section should I be entering this password. Currently unable to change boot sequence due to an old bios password which has been forgotten.
