I have a Dell GX520 BIOS that I want to hack and make it think I am running a GX620 system. Both the GX520 and 620 use the same BIOS file and both have practically identical motherboards. The only difference is that one has a PCI E and some extra RAM slots. There are two reasons why I want to do this. I want to be able to use CPUs that are supported by the 620 so I don't get an annoying message saying that the CPU is not compatible (press F1 to continue) and I was also going to experiment by soldering on the PCI E slot to see if it works. As you can tell, I am just doing this for fun, so I don't mind doing anything risky. Can anyone help me hack this BIOS? My thought was that it identifies whether 620 or 520 based on service tag, but I am not sure there might be other things involved.

So far all I have done is downloaded the BIOS file (A11GX620.EXE) and extracted the ROM file with /writeromfile. I tried to open it in Phoenix BIOS Editor but I got "No BCPs" error. Can anyone actually disassemble the code and hack it for me

HMM... can you give example where 620 supported cpu's not compatible with 520 ?

few years ago i have in my office lot of 520 and 620 PC and in my opinion hardware of this both machines are the same except 520 didin't have pci express and only two ram slots
