DracUK, please confirm, are you booting from the cd once you burn the iso? or are you extracting the files and running from command line? I get that error as well if I attempt to run from command line.. Also are you running the Dell bios or a modded bios? (not sure, maybe that will affect the program, maybe it reads rdst or slic?) If you are still using the modded bios, try flashing back to Dell's first.. mine also has service tag but nothing in the asset tag field so that is correct..
Hi, flashing in windows --> slic 2.0 flashing back (in windows) to A08, flashing modded one in dos --> slic 2.1, windows activated! Thanks! regards, harry
I do!!!! I do!!!! If you are talking about helping get slic 2.1 into older Dell BIOS without any SLIC, such as older dimension desktops, I am interested. I am a pc tech, so I have a few machines that boot that I use for parts that I'd be willing to risk a brick. Please let me know.
Hi Shakey, Yes Im booting from the cd which says this utility does not support this machine and something about fdd head parking,it puts me into dos with an A prompt.I then run the command ASSET.COM PASS: 12/31 and get the error "this machine does not support asset/service tag" I have also tried creating a thumb drive dos boot disk and transferred the svctag and asset progs to it.Im using the original dell bios A05.This is a stock machine except I have changed cd rom to cd rewriter. There is no floppy in the machine. Sorry, I was hoping it was something simple... Those utilities have worked on both older and newer Dells (including the Inspiron 1545). Hmmm the cd rewriter wouldn't make the difference for sure, I wonder if Dell hasn't updated their svctag program. I suppose there may be a newer version than what we have?
