Ok thanks. The rebuilt Dell flasher won't be necessary. I guess that if I decide to take the risk, I'll do it from DOS (using a bootable USB stick). It is said that is the most secure method.
Harry's problem sounds the same as mine. The 1537 does have the Dell diagnostic partition and I did keep it when I wiped my system before but the thing is that the system doesn't even post now. There's no way to access it that I can find. When powering on, the touch sensitive media controls at the top of the keyboard cycle on then off and that's it. Screen remains blank the entire time and it doesn't even beep an error code or anything. I had a bootable DVD that I tried sticking in the drive to see if I could get it to start by hitting F12 despite not seeing anything on the screen but it spins up and does nothing. It's now stuck in the drive.
I think..... bootable usb stick, Harry says it does access the USB-Floppy, so I think it is checking the usb ports... a usb stick would be large enough... follow the steps in the bios recovery thread.. Harry keep trying the usb stick thing... Some report many attempts before success..
I will try it on my 6400, but it will likely be a week before I can try (not at home). If it works you would have to remove the hard drive and put it in another PC to edit it then put back in the original.. You may as well wait until I have a chance to try it with my Dell though..
Hi, the problem is, that 1. the hd is a sata, the pins are not the same as in my desktop ;-(....... and 2. after power on there is no access to hd, cd, usb-stick, usb-floppy possible...... the last thing i can check, is to put the file on a sd-card, maybe the laptop could boot? oder access this device...... EDIT: sd-card didnt work, too..... EDIT off regards, harry
