Hey, I just wanted to confirm for the people of this Post , The moded 1721 A07 Bios from shakeyplace does work. I moded my A07 bios from my own computer yesterday , And it worked. With the slic dump ios tool, I have check and seen that I have 2.1 slic table on my computer. I read on this post that your computer already has to have 2.0 slic table already in your bios. My computer already have the latest firmware install in my bios, Which was A07. I updated it yesterday from the Dell Support website.. Then after updateing it I used the moded bios from Shakeplace, which is A07 firmware.I do not know if shakeplace moded bios will upgrade it also from original version bios that comes with Dell Inspiron 1721 Laptop. i'm pretty sure it does. But this is the way it worked for me, So I recommend upgradeing bios first from Dell Support.

But the moded bios from Shakeyplace does work for the 1721 inspiron Dell Laptop. Thanks Shakeyplace..

Run as administrator! I know that one to be 2.1, you must not be flashing correctly!

No, use WinPhlash or pflash from dos to flash the bios. You can create a temporal folder, copy there Winvost263.exe and execute the program or expand the file with Winrar. You will get WinPhlash.exe. Copy now to the folder the modded bios, execute Winphlash as administrator and flash the bios.

I used this procedure and everything was fine.

    Thanks for the reply, lucasgarcia.

I'm using Win 7 x64 and I've been having problems with winphlash. I also downloaded winphlash64 and get "platform signature not found in the interface" error. I will try to backup my BIOS in pure DOS(miniDOS + USB) with pflash and see if I get the same error.

32bit Winphlash gives me a driver error when it tries to load PHLASHNT.SYS probably because I'm using 64bit OS.

    Hi Shakey,
    Thanks for the info. :)
Theres no rush to activate this PC, as its being used as a test box.
So if you want/need a PC to test on, let me know. ;)

Thanks, I figured a way to add the SLIC to DeathJR's bin file, cbrom does replace the ACPITBL.BIN file despite the fact it only lists setup.rom and "other" as the bios contents when using the /D switch. It won't work with your bios though, must be those extra lines in the bios...
It is more the extraction of the rom from the original Dell file I am having trouble with, looking at it a bit every day though.. not much time while I am still away from home with work...
    Thanks, Shakey

couple things to try, either the flasher has to be run as administrator or not flashing because the current bios is the same version - in that case downgrade to a previous version first..
